  2. Hi all, My Electrician has wired my DB board as shown in the simplified schematic below. I note the following: The grid-feed to the change-over is taken from the output side of Beaker-A. If there's a need to make the Inverter DB safe, this would need Breaker-A to be off (and the Inverter) which means there is no supply to essential loads during this time. Shouldn't the grid-feed to the change-over be tied in before Breaker-A? For the return to the Main DB there is an MCB on the inverter side (#D), then another in the Main DB (#B), and then the change-over. Is this all necessary? The cabling is protected by Breaker-D and the change-over is an isolator. Taking out Breaker-B opens up two DIN rail slots which would help me. Any thoughts? Thanks
  3. Hi all, Does anyone know what the regulatory / legal (?) requirements are for having ripple control relays installed in Johannesburg. Mine seems to have been bypassed at some point - should this have been picked up when the CoC was done? Thanks
  4. The relative area of the two metals makes a difference. An aluminium frame (large area) with S/S nuts and bolts (small Area) will be far less of a risk than the other way around. But as said above, coat it to keep the surfaces at the point of contact dry (i.e. no electrolyte) and it should be OK.
  5. Yes, not pretty ... but with a CoC. There is an additional isolator outside the house that I use to shut of the incoming feed to make it safe - and then I test. There are a couple of other issues I picked up elsewhere that are also scary. The original question though: Can the ELCB be moved to the right (which is where the incomers enter) or must I try find additional length and place the ELCB on the left (which I realise is the convention, but not sure about the law).
  6. Not pretty (to my untrained eye anyway) and I'd like to use the opportunity to address a few issues I've picked up. You'll see that there is space to the left of the ELCB but the three incomers are all heavy gauge with no room to play - so that space becomes redundant if I can't make a plan.
  7. Hi All, Is there any Regulation/Standard stipulating that the ELCB must be top-left on the board. I need to shift things to make some space but the in-comers don't have enough play in them to move left (right would be OK). Thanks

Not the easiest of websites to order from and not all franchises seem to have stock. Apologies if this sort of positing is frowned upon (I have no commercial interests - promise).

  11. Hi all, When "splitting" DB's, is it necessary to have two completely separate boards? I have more than enough space on my existing board to split the essential / non-essential loads and add new breakers, by-pass switch, etc. I'll probably add a small board alongside the inverter which is little way off.   12. Hi all, Just starting out on this journey so have some catching up to do. At this stage looking at a Sunsynk 5kw unit and battery, with solar later. To start with, I hope to get some guidance on the following: - I have three phase supply but plan to hook up just one phase to the inverter. From what I have read, this would be OK – let me know if I’ve missed anything. - Are there any regulations regarding placement of the battery and inverter- either directly or indirectly? I see nothing in the gas installations regulation. There is an AS/NZ standard – any ideas on where SANS stands on this? - The distance from Inverter to DB board will be about 15meters (5V drop at 40A and 6mm2 cable). Apart from the CT cable, anything to worry about? Will I need additional breakers? - Regarding adding a battery later, is it just a matter of adding a new one or would I have to throw out the old one and install two new ones (same make / capacity / age)? - I notice that some of the inverter manufacturers also have batteries. Are there any pros & cons when it comes to matching vs mixing brands? That's it for now, thanks.
