  1. Actually a clever and intuitive way of overcoming the problem. It's probably something Solis hasn't even thought of as a way of overcoming the issue. When I asked them how to overcome the issue, they simply responded that there was no way of doing it. Thanks for that insight...
  2. Hi... Adding to the thread, somewhat unrelated to the above. To answer the last post, yes, just send them the serial number. But ensure the Internet router is connected in a way that it doesn't switch off when the inverter restarts. You can change over before you do the update. This is more of a campaign for Solis users to request support for some much needed software updates to their platform which just aren't happening. Unfortunately with Solis SA support, they are very helpful when it comes to firmware updates and correcting setting related issues. But when it comes to issues beyond that, they can be somewhat unintuitive and unhelpful. Some of their suggestions to remedy genuine software flaws are laughable. 2 major issues that still pose a problem: 1) When the time of use is enabled, the inverter defaults to solar priority for battery and grid for load. But when the timer is off, the load is priority. This priority cannot be changed and is rather frustrating. People want to be able to tell their inverter what to do. They want the solar to power their early morning loads and after everyone is gone to work, there'll be enough solar for the battery. Not that the grid is being used at the early part of the morning, battery charges up early and for the rest of the day, solar essentially does nothing. Solis Support solution for the problem.. Don't use the timer, just set the Reserve SOC low and the inverter will prioritise the load. But people don't want to go into the night with their battery at a low SOC eg. 40%. They want to start the night at 100% and end it at 40% in case there's an outage during the night. That's why the timer function is there in the first place. 2) There's no battery restart % setting (like Deye/Sunsynk). So you can't set a high% for the system to start feeding loads when there's only solar and no grid. The result of this oversight is that you have a system that starts as soon as the battery passes the Reserve SOC and shuts down again after a few minutes because solar isn't enough at the early part of the morning to run the loads. I've had customers left frustrated because the system continues starting and stopping, potentially damaging fridges and freezers. Solis Support solution for the problem.. Add more panels. Laughable, really. There's 3.8kw of panels for a 1kw essential load. But at 5:30 in the morning as the sun is just rising and starting to charge the batteries, how is it going to produce even 1kw? That's why the Restart SOC function is supposed to be there. It acts as a buffer time. Others experiences and inputs are appreciated on this subject.
  3. Hi... Go into the settings via the Bluetooth perhaps as the info will be more live. Always keep your reserve SOC at a level you want it AT THE BEGINNING OF AN OUTAGE... Generally 100% or so for some people. Look for the Overdischarge SOC and set that to 10% if you want to run the battery that far down. Manufacturers generally like 20%.
  4. As for my dilemma, it still isn't concluded. Turns out that the Powerline 5 has a second gen PACE BMS that was never tested with Solis. So I've been waiting for the last few weeks for PACE in China to write firmware to make it compatible with Solis. I was promised it would take a few days, but it's going 2 weeks and I still haven't received the firmware as yet. But they did call to tell me that they're working on it and it's almost ready. On the Solis side, I've set the unit to run on voltages, but it gives me the strangest readings, especially the SOC which isn't remotely correct. Solis can't explain it. It also does a strange thing where it forces the grid to charge the batteries even when the grid charge is off. Again, unexplainable by Solis. Also, as for the load side going after an outage and not kicking back in, they can't explain that either. All I got told was, "Let's sort the battery issue out, then see what happens afterwards." So that's a crux what's going on thus far. On the bright side, it seems that the solar production on the Solis is more efficient than some competitors. I've seen higher peaks than other similar plants with a similar orientation and panels.

  6. Hi Guys... So, my BMS issues in the end were not sorted out. It just prolonged the effects of the drift to over a week before it became apparent that something was still wrong. Solis is JHB do have 2 BSL Batteries that they managed to get their hands on and are currently testing. But they are also experiencing the same issues. The local BSL distributor is also in contact with the OEM in China to figure out what's going on. Another issue I picked up is when the battery dies and grid is restored, the back up port doesn't work. It only worked the next morning when pv was available. This is something that even the Solis guys in JHB are baffled at and are looking into it...
  7. Hi all... So the issue with the Solis and BSL seems to be sorted out. I found a link on the net posted by BSL in China on how to commission with a Solis inverter. Turns out, you need to set the inverter protocol on the BMS to "JINLANG" for them to communicate correctly. After this was done by the local BSL agent, the SOC vs Voltage has been very stable with 25% SOC giving me about 51.5v... Overall, my experience thus far with the machines installed so far can be summarised as excellent hardware with maturing software. The App tells me something in Chinese when I try locally connecting via WiFi, so I have no idea what's the issue. There's no SOC setting per time slot, which can get added on at a later stage. There's no priority load or battery option. It's load then battery. Since the battery issue has been sorted out, is this still going to be my new default machine going forward? I think so.... Solis support has been very helpful (although they also couldn't identify what was causing the BMS issue). Their updates are quick and they're confident that updating under normal conditions won't brick their machine.
  8. They're quite close, not much between them. The BSL uses the Pace BMS from what I gather... BSL Tech used PBMS Tools to go in and update the battery. Thing is, BSL was supposed to Float at atleast 54.5v. With the Solis, it Absorbs at 54.5v and drops by a considerable amount afterwards.
  9. So the idea is to discharge to 50% at night. But even after reaching the 50% mark from a full charge, the voltage still drops without the SOC dropping. Even on a full charge, the voltage gradually drops over 1v over the period of a few hours. On the other site, the volt drop was rapid at 69%...
  10. Hi all... So I bit the bullet and installed 2 separate Solis S6 systems. One was an 8kw and another 5kw. Both were connected to BSL Powerline 5 batteries which are approved by Solis. Having been using the Powerlines for a while now with Sunsynk and not encountering a single issue, I felt that it would be a good combination with the Solis. But they ended up being the most stressful installations in over 2 years. Both sites have the exact same problem of maintaining a constant SOC and the battery voltages steadily declining to a point the BMS shuts the battery down. Did a firmware update on the battery and inverter and still doing the exact same thing. BSL techs will log in again on to check, but was the switch to Solis over Sunsynk worth it? It's been a constant to and fro to sites and leaving a bad impression with my clients. Definitely a good machine overall in terms of hardware, but software seems to be another ball game. Solis and especially BSL tech support has been excellent thus far, but the problem persists. If anyone has any suggestions to troubleshoot, it'll be highly appreciated.
