SA Solar Supplier scam help
I realise that this is an old thread, but did you ever find someone? I have a friend that has been scammed by SA Solar Installers and Suppliers... don't know if this is the same company in this thread. He is looking for someone to help with his LuxPower (And to get his system registered, they were paid to complete this as well) but the LuxPower also needs to be set correctly.

I have thought the same thing - the initial demand kicks in and the inverter takes from the grid until the battery sort of realises it can supply. It isn't much, probably about 1 unit a day, if that. I was just wondering if it's a setting that I have missed, or sort of by design. Seems it could be by design, although it doesn't always make sense. Thanks for all the input

Yeah, that's what I don't get, and it's only when the PV isn't quite generating enough it seems to switch between grid and battery often. When there is enough PV to supply the load AND charge battery, then Grid is flat. There seems to be something switching from PV to Battery...almost like a preference is to Grid first.

So this is a good example for me, this was before the 'Grid' option is ticked, but grid is 264W, and the battery is sitting on 100%, I would expect PV to be 656, Battery to be 264 instead of using the grid... I would expect the grid supply to be pretty flat like the early part of the morning (Where PV is generating well)

Here are the configs: And then the Work Mode timers: Basically I want the system to use the battery between 9:00 - 16:15. Otherwise it should use Grid to supplement the load (I have my parent's living in a flat at the back who is on the non-essentials, but they not particularly energy conscious, so they would just run the battery down in an hour or two. Currently I run off battery between 1am and 4am, and then it switches back to grid. If the battery is below 25% between 1pm and 4pm, it should charge it up from the grid (Just to cover load shedding if it hits unexpectedly and solar hasn't managed to charge the battery up yet). Hopefully that all makes sense.

I'm relatively green when it comes to these topics, but I have a Deye inverter with a Revov battery. I've noticed on Solar Assistant that when Solar is generating well, grid usage is 0, but when the Solar is very up and down, it switches to grid momentarily before switching to the battery. Does anyone know why this is? I would have assumed that PV would be supplemented immediately from the battery, and if the thresholds are breached to then use the grid. In this graph, battery is at 100% charged, but when PV drops below the demand, it switches initially to grid, and then swops to battery.

Thanks! I am located in Cape Town / Brackenfell. Unfortunately my installer is... let's just leave it there. I have read that post, and that is what concerns me, as they have this: Where as other posts it is just 4 -->4 and 5-->5, which is what my cable is. Pin 2 is currently used by the SA Splitter. If I look at the Battery info on the Inverter I see this: So it is getting some info, but not the temp (I don't know if it will actually get the temp). I am looking at getting the cable suggested above which will plug into the Console port of the Battery and then into SA directly, so at least SA will have battery info. I just have 0 confidence in this battery and considering replacing it with something like a Revov R100 (Going from 2.4kWh up to 5.1 would be amazing already). This battery was never about being used except for during load shedding.

Ah ok, I saw this, and wasn't sure if I should try this or not. So does this then plug into the RS485 port on the battery and then into the Pi? And then there is still the cable from the CAN port on the battery to the Splitter in the Inverter? Not that it makes a difference I guess as the inverter is not reading the battery BMS anyway. Does this work on your SA? And once it is plugged in, how do you set SA to read directly from the battery and not the inverter? Just change it to Pylontech (RS485)?

Thanks for the reply! Sorry, I make a mistake in my original message! I bought the splitter and SA / Inverter Cable from SA directly, and had a normal ethernet cable from the battery to the splitter. Seeing this forum lots of people spoke about having a cable specifically for pin 4 and 5 only for comms with the battery, so this weekend I did that quick but it didn't make a difference. It has dip switches, but is currently configured as master / single battery. I'm not sure how to feed the battery directly into SA itself? I just assumed it needs to go through the inverter so that the Inverter manages the battery side of things.

Hi All! I have read many of the topics around the Deye inverter and Pylontech Batteries, and connecting to the BMS etc. However I am struggling to get my Inverter to read my battery. I have a Deye 5Kw with Pylontech US2000c and Solar Assistant running. I have the Splitter from Geewiz, and have a cable crimped with pins 3 and 4 only connected to the splitter and battery. Solar Assistant works perfectly, but the inverter doesn't read the battery temps, and the SoC doesn't work (I have had to set it to 100ah to make it all work). I have gone through several of the posts here on what to do (Most were around the pin allocation for the battery comms), so Solar Assistant is on Pin 1, 2 and 3, and then battery on 4 and 5. I have tried setting the Inverter to 00 (Where SA does connect fine) and to protocol 12 as well (Meant to be for Pylontech) but then SA doesn't connect. I have nearly given up hope on getting this working and almost deciding to just get a new battery that connects easily but feel that it should all be working, just stuck somewhere and don't know where. FYI - I'm relatively tech experienced, but not very clued up around inverters etc. Thanks in advance
