  1. HI I would suggest retrofit normal geyser to solar, and the do auto swicthover to LPG gas geyser to remove escom wire to geyser. I have tried various methods, including heat pump, but heat pumps expensive AND require servicing, the gas are the cheapest heating post solar which are free post capex. A proper gas geyser called CT ( constant temperature heat water easily to 55 deg C, you dont need more as you will add cold water in any case) I think i know what i ma talking about, are a qualified plumper, gas installer and engineer ( ps i dont want work, i have to much) Regards C
  2. HI Sebastiaan This will not really work, apart from pressure popping rubber connectors, the moment there is wind/clouds teh plastic tubes cool immediately resulting in a cooling of effect on a water in geyser. The reason why water solar collectors have glass on is the have the greehosue effect and preserve heat inside box.. Suggest buy a 2 m2 flat plate collector , or look for a used collector Regards C
  3. HI The pumps can get noisy with age... options imo : - remove pump and clean , a lot of the time sand/silica land in impellor housing resulting in resonance when impeller turn ( and agree te older plastic versions more noisy than brass type ). CarEfull when cleaning there are thin spacer washers in the assembly, if you loose this the impellor drag and then the pump do not work - Convert to 220 volt circulation pump ( they are less noisy with higher flow rates) Hope this help
  4. Take a normal Kwikot geyser and use this as geyser ( of shelf type item , cheaper and easier to replace) and a flat plat vs evacuated tube , performance diff only visible in winter and transition months ( ie autum) Flat plat , properly sized ( 2m2 for 150 lt) and installed facing north allways work ...the evacuated tubes might add a couple degrees mor ein winter but this become a costing issue Regards TTF
  5. Hi There I live in W/Cape are Mech engineer and were artisan in earlier life ...with ongoing hobby to do Water Solar and Gas installations ( i have a license in both Plumbing and Gas) suffice to say i think i am proficient on this, have done 100's over the years. I am not on forum to get work, i have enough work, but are willing to share insight if required, time permitting ( gainfully employed) . I am gatvol of eskom extortion, my house circa 300m2 use +_ 8 Kwh per day, need to get this down to +_ 4 kwh day, my knowledge of PV are lacking, thus siphoning some experience off here. Regards TTfan ( old alias referring to choice of wheels some time ago)
