Looking more into it a heat pump may be the better way to go, and would be easier to move onto a PV setup at a later stage. I did a 24 hour test and my geysers are using 30kwh out of the 60 to 80kwh. Issue is my geysers are on either ends of the roof. I have a very large flat roof where I can put a mini solar farm, approximately 500sqm of roof space. I am also based in Johannesburg.

I need to move my water heating to an alternative method. Currently using around 60 to 80kwh per day which is uneconomical. Currently have 2 x 150l geysers at either ends of the house and fed from 2 different DB boxes. 1 gas geyser for kitchen and guest bathroom. I want to do either the EV tubes or a PV system to run these. If you have a budget of R30 000 would you rather spend it on 2 x 150 retrofit tubes which are about 13k installed. Or buy a 5kw axpert inverter and 10 x 300w panel and run off there? Would the panels produce enough to heat each geyser? They have 2500w elements
