  1. @RcleggI agree with most of the responses. To go Off grid/grid tied/hybrid is an expensive exercise, however, by starting with a reasonably sized inverter (5kw) is a good option for an average household household. Then expand from their onwards. (R23k) Solar modules are relatively much cheaper nowadays and could be added as could be afforded. please look at the attached datasheet, this could give you some insight of what is possible. You would need to notify your Munic or Eskom and register your project. most have by-laws in place for embedded generation.
