    Hi, I just thought I'd update this for future ref. 
     
    About a week after my post the inverter totally died one night. There was a strong burning smell and upon investigation I found that the plastic terminal box I had installed beneath the unit had melted. 
    Turns out the issue was mine, during installation I had not terminated the battery DC cable properly, the arcing noise was the inverter not getting consistent current delivery. 
    I am a professional engineer, so I am well aware of the dangers and slightly embarrassed by my mistake. As usual my home installation was done in a rush at night in bad light.
