I have same model, same problem when working only from PV.
After changing some email with MPP Solar, they suggested the following:
"likely PV interference as we also have some other customers with this issue and may be relating to PV wiring run. exact cause though is unknown at this time since we cannot reproduce this in our lab. Try installing >15uf /500v capacitor wires if you can on the PV terminals and this is a known fix. attached SOP for your reference."
I also have some newer firmware versions, that fix some bugs related to unstable output power.
Still there are lots of other open issues:
MPPT issues on cloudy days
Low MPPT performance compared to other inverters (Voc 500Vdc)
Unacceptable charging battery from grid in case of Solar Only charging setting
The moment there is some voltage in PV, PIP6048MT is starting to charge battery with 4A from grid, although I configured to charge only from Solar.
AC Charging setting incorrect behavior
It seems that in case of UTILITY AND SOLAR charging setting, AC charging behavior is wrong:
2A MAX AC setting – DC clamp measurement is 15A, watchpower PC software was reporting 13A
10A MAX AC setting - DC clamp measurement is 15A, watchpower PC software was reporting 13A
20A MAX AC setting – DC clamp measurement is 25A, watchpower PC software was reporting 23A
Output source priority “Solar Utility Batt - SUB” incorrect behavior
In case of battery full (floating stage), PV was showing around 280Vdc, PV input power = 0W.
This means that Output active power was taken from grid, although it was on second priority.

Below you can find a short comparison between 60.95 and 860.96.
On a good day looks like they have similar behavior.
Will have to see what happens on a cloudy day.

I've tried different settings in 860.95 (SUB, SBU, UTI, charge current, float/bulk voltages), no way to make it go to float, even if charge current is 0.
I will probably go back to 60.95.

You found a solution for this? What version are you currently using? Or found to be the best?

I have a MPP Solar PIP 6048MT (VM III Twin) 6KW inverter + 48V 220Ah AGM batteries, bulk voltage configured to 57.4V, float 54.4V, max charge current 30A, solar only charge.
I have updated inverter firmware from 60.95 to 860.95 (float bug only fix) and observed that it doesn't go to float, even if battery charge current drops to 0A. As long as it has PV available battery voltage stays at 57.4V.
I have attached 2 graphs, one from factory firmware 60.95, second one from 860.95.
What can be the cause for that behavior?
Is it something that I'm missing?

See here for the corrected version, now called x60.96, but still based on factory firmware version 60.95.
It may be that unpatched factory firmware version 60.95 has fixed the PV voltage stuck bug, and no patched firmware is needed at all, possibly other than 860.95 that fixes only the premature float bug. ]
Well, that was a bit ambitious; sorry for the delayed release. Since I'm not really closer to solving any of the charging bugs, here is the patched 60.95, just like 60.06, but with one other patched file that just has the premature float bug fixed (see below).
These are patched firmwares version 860.95, 260.95, 560.95, 160.95, and 960.95, all based on factory firmware version 60.95 for the Axpert VM III Twin 6kW and 4kW, and the Axpert VM IV Twin 6kW and 4kW. These patches implement most of Georg's MPPT "stuck at 90V" patches (here it would be "stuck at 60 V"), and fix the premature float bug. The only parts not applied are for the forward current constant, which doesn't seem to be changed based on solar voltage in any VM firmwares. The version number should display in full when using monitoring software, but will still show as 60.95 on the front panel display. Do not use with any other models, not even older VM III and VM IV models with power ratings like 5 kW or 3 kW, or non-twin models. Use at your own risk.
In the reflash tool, you may have to navigate to the folder with the patched files the first time it is run. Choose the hex file with the minimum MPPT voltage that you want:
860.95: float bug only
260.95: 200V min MPPT
560.95: 150V min MPPT
160.95: 100V min MPPT
960.95: 90V min MPPT
Use the 200 V variant if your PV panels are nearly always well above 200 V. Otherwise, use the 150 V version if your panels are almost always above 150 V. Use the 100 V version if your panels are particularly low in voltage. Try the 90 V version only if you have just 3 panels, the very bare minimum.
You can also of course choose the original factory firmware.
