Hey guys, Looking at now installing a PV, EV or heat pump water heater and if possible or worth it, utilising a bit of my free PV from solar system.

Im stuck weighing the pros and cons and all the different ways i could do this. My aim is to eventually build up to a complete off Grid Household.

Any input would be most appreciated.

 

My Solar setup now is:

Growatt SPF5000es

2 x pylontech us3000c (working towards another 2)

9x 455W JR Panels

average power draw from inverter idles at about 1 - 1.5kw with infrequent spikes to 3kw when a microwave

or kettle (only in main house) runs.

 

Environment:

2 small cottages (back to back) for mom and gran

Main house with myself and girlfriend,

4 people Total

I have a bunch of roof space.

 

Geysers

1 x 150 L solar ready Kwikhot in Main house - Wired straight to utility 3kw element

1 x 150 L geyser shared for the 2 cottage. (disconnected currently)

The Cottages are very close to main house, so I bypassed the cottage geyser a while ago and

ran a hot water pipe to cottages. This was also due to cost associated and headache of trenching a seperate electrical

cable to cottage for geyser on utility. The cottage is soley on Solar power. Gas hobs, Gas oven.

We seem to manage fine with the hot water usage as we all shower at different times.

 

Would it be worth trying to utilise some of the wasted PV from my solar system by popping a 1-1.5kw element into the cottage geyser and connecting

geysers in series? 

Or using that free pv to power a heat pump?

Should i stick to the one geyser or look at connecting in series, or solar heat both seperately.

Should i get a heat pump, Evacuated tube, or PV system like Elon or Geyserwise? - Got a quote on Elon installed - 20k. Thought it was supposed to be cheaper than Geyserwise.

Yes. With a heatpump connected, 3.6kw heatpump with loading valve uses 860w only and with correct heat pump installed hot water wont be an issue for all. FYI. If you have a problem of unequal pressure,you should install a cobra master flow kit at your feed.
