Hi All,

Would anyone perhaps know the idle consumption of a Sunsynk 5 kW inverter, if it were to be set up in an off-grid installation (PV with batteries only)?

For context, I am planning a system which will initially be off-grid, but then may well become integrated with the grid at a later point. As a result, I am looking at one of the combination inverter/AC charger/MPPT units (and not just a discrete MPPT and inverter setup). Since the initial generation will only come from PV (the larger loads will be scheduled for during periods of peak PV production) I would like to minimise the energy consumption when running on just the batteries (i.e. in the evenings, when the essential load demand is low).

Broadly speaking, Axpert 5 kVA units have been quoted to consume around 50 W. Victrons apparently consume far less, around 11 W, but are out of the budget. I've also read figures of up to 70 W for some of the cheaper Growatt 5 kVA units.

Can anyone provide any input on the Sunsynk, or similar (i.e. Deye) units? Alternatively, are there perhaps any suggestions for affordable (combination) units with lower idle consumptions?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

KMC

The SunSynk is a "Hybrid Parity (Super) Inverter", which does everything in one unit, and therefore idle wattage can't be compared to a Victron which is a component system.

I don't have a 5.5 kW unit, but have an 8.8 kW unit, and currently at night it is using about 42 W.

Not too bad for a decent sized system with all the functionality it has built in.:)

Hope this is of some help.

Out of interest, what is your continuous power draw setting set to?

Not quite sure what you mean, but I have my whole house wired as essential load on the inverter, and have pushed it to 8 kW usage, and it handles it without a problem.

My normal "idle" house load is +- 1 kW.
