Posted December 25, 20213 yr Good day all, I'm new at solar. I bought a sunmagic 3kva inverter it looks like the sun pays and axpert inverter and has an identical user manual, the problem is I can't change the programming the manual says push enter button 3 seconds I've done this several times and the button does make a beep when pushing it but the inverter doesn't go into programming and it also won't communicate through the rs232 cable. The inverter works but it's in utility first mode even when disconnecting the utility it works perfectly with the solar and batteries, I'm basically just trying to set it to solar first. Any advice? Thanks

I'm surprised that they won't go into settings mode. 7 hours ago, Brian_ said: it also won't communicate through the rs232 cable. I'm even more surprised about that. Are you trying it with the Watchpower monitoring application, using the (hopefully) provided cable? If not, there are so many ways for the commands to fail (wrong bit rate, wrong port, checksums, etc etc).
December 25, 20213 yr Author I'm using watch power 1.14 with the rs232 cable that was provided with the inverter and its connected to a rs232 to usb converter cable that I bought from matrix I know the comport is fine but as for the bit rate and check sums I have no knowledge

All I can say is, it's a clone, so who knows what they put in there. Usually it will work like the copied product, but there are no guarantees. Edit: some USB to serial adapters don't seem to work with Watchpower, or they may need drivers installed before they work. Perhaps test the USB to serial adapter by shorting pins 2 and 3 (loopback test). Use a comms program and check that whatever you type is echoed back. If not, try to find the needed driver.
