need some advice please, I have ( I think in error )  purchased a hybrid 1KW (axpert clone type china thing) 12v (PWM) model, I have installed a few of these in the past however always 24v or 48v versions which are always MPPT, but this time I needed to go with 12V as having moved to Lifpo4 and battery cost is high so I'm trying out a small system with 12v on 1 lifepo4

So....my issue is this, I think i should have got an MPPT version of the inverter as the specs say VmPP 15-18V with Max Open circuit voltage of 55v, my panels are vmpp of 31.4v and OC of 38.4v, so i take this as the inverter will be fine but highly inefficient, right ? Or would the panel voltage be too high anyway ? 

What if i put an MPPT controller between the panels and inverter PV input ? 

Or should i just try to find the MPPT version of the inverter and sell the PWM one ? (still in un-opened box)

Your panels have a voltage far too high. That PWM controller needs panels not higher than 18V for proper operation. Your battery will not like to receive 34V pulses. Rather sell it and get the model with MPPT.
