February 16, 20233 yr Good day everyone. I'm new on the forum as well as with the frustration of load shedding. I have so far 1 question. I didn't know what to buy after a years research. Then I decided on a MECER 5KVA inverter and a MECER 3.5kwh lithium ion battery. After I bought it someone told me I can't connect the inverter to a 16 amp wall plug. I was very disappointed. I want to run the inverter charger from the wall plug because I rent from a Government housing and don't want to open the db board. Any advice please.
February 16, 20233 yr This comes down to specifications. If the inverter can pull more than 16A from the grid (seems likely to me), then either something is going to trip (the better outcome) or something is going to start burning. Remember too that doing what you want to do means that you will have extension leads running all over the place to supply the items you want backed up. This is another reason for getting the unit wired in properly, you use the existing cabling, breakers and sockets as much as possible, and so you have better safety and less to trip over. This is a real condumdrum for people who are renting.
February 16, 20233 yr Author Nooooo!!! If I knew that I would rather go for 3kva. The 5kva is a 48v. I actually just want to run a chest freezer, freezer, tv, decoder, fan and cctv. I guess when I connect to the db I must also get a COC
