hi, the guy who installed my solar stuff, including solar geyser - it turns out he is not a registered electrician. obviously the guy who did my house is and i have a coc for the house, but where does it leave me with my solar system and do i need a coc for the solar? i was obviously brought under the [false] impression that guys who do solar are registered...  <_<

Only the electrical connection needs to be done by a registered electrician and must have a CoC for the work. They geyser itself can be installed by any competent person.

As far as I know there are presently no regulations for DC installations, though your insurance company might frown upon things if it catches fire and wasn't done properly. You need a CoC for the bit where the inverter connects to your house DB board. And you need a Pr. Eng to sign off on the whole system to certify you won't accidentally feed back.

If the system is completely off-grid (does not connect to your DB), well then technically you need nothing at all.

tx, the electrician who did my house has volunteered to come and check everything and give a coc; i believe he had an inkling as to where this is going...

and obviously for insurance purposes!

so much energy and money and time is wasted keeping schysters at bay - and still, before you know it, you got bitten
