Huawei Sun2000 Gridtied string inverter backfeed

Featured Replies

Im in need of some advice on a grid tied system I have.

Installed a Huawei 60kw string inverter with 93x 540w pv modules 3 months ago, instead of having a reduced electricity bill, the bill doubled. Acording to the municipality the meter picks up the excess power that gets fed back into the grid as consumption ,they suggested we install a CT to limit this.

My question is can this be limited on a grid tied system? I have done this on the sunsynk hybrids, but not sure about the string inverters.

A)do I pull out the string inverter and drop another 100k and install a 50kw sunsynk?

B)solve this som other way?? Please advise.

Thanks

Petrus.

Hi Petrus! The problem comes from your consumption not being similar for the 3 phases. I will give an example here.

Let's say that at a specific moment, you have the following consumption: L1 - 5kWh, L2 - 2kWh, L3 - 8kWh. Summing them up, you will have 15kWh consumption. If you have a smart meter that sees that, your inverter will produce 15kWh (assuming you set your inverter to "zero export limitation"). The 15kWh will be produced L1-5kWh, L2-5kWh, L3-5kWh.

In this example, if you don't have a meter that can register the export, the L2 needs only 2kWh, and the extra 3kWh will be exported and registered as consumption.

Things can get pretty wild if your consumption is unbalanced between the 3 phases. I've explained the phenomenon more detailed here: https://re-energy.ro/cate-panouri-fotovoltaice-ar-trebui-sa-instalez/
