October 29, 20232 yr Hi Everyone! I recently got a Sunsynk 8kw system, 12x550w JA panels and 2xsunsynk 5.3kwh batteries installed as an initial install for mostly backup during loadshedding. All working well, but as expected if I want to use the system independently with Eskom as back-up I need an additional battery. Will my 12x panels be enough to handle the load and battery during the day (assuming good weather conditions)? My base load during the day is around 1500W if I run the pool pump and without its about 500W. Also running high-consumption appliances during the day (dishwasher, washing machine etc) - which does increase the load to about 2500W. On my calculations (below), based on an 80% (5280W) efficiency in the panels, I will be able to run the system with the batteries when I assume a large load and DOD - but would like some input and advice. Calculations: Panels Production @ 80% eff: 5280W Load: 2500W Charge: 2780W Batteries @ 78% DOD: 12.402 Kwh Charge time: 5.4 peak hours
October 29, 20232 yr @NewbieinSA hi yes you have plenty of panels. 550 x 12 = 6600 watt peaks from about 10 am x 5 hours = 25-33kwh so yes on sunny days you have more than enough.
