January 3, 20242 yr Hi All I have built a 2.0 Kw hydro generator. I am using a 2.0 Kw axial flux PWM generator rated at 48 volts 3 phase and 500 RPM. The hydro part of it gives constant RPM of the generator. I feed the 3 phase through a three phase rectifier and the output is 49 VDC. This feeds a 48 volt battery bank made up of four 12 VDC AGM batteries in series. The issue I have is that I am only producing 1.2 Amps, even when the batteries are below 48 volts. Any ideas?

Have you added some smoothing caps after the rectifier. If the current gets higher or even at this level there could be quite a bit of ripple. What kind of controller are you using before the battery?
January 4, 20242 yr Author Hi Scorp 007 When using the 3 phase rectifier I was using a Victron MPPT controller with smoothing capacitors. I changed this to a hybrid wind and solar MPPT controller and feed the 3 phase directly into the controller, not via the rectifier. I am getting the same result. I want to charge the batteries as quickly as possible.

I want to charge the batteries as quickly as possible. Get yourself 4x24V truck headlamp bulbs. Connect 2 in series and another 2 in series and then parallel the 2 sets. Connect them between 2 phases and measure the output in volts and amps. This will prove if the wind generator can actually supply the about 220W and supply about 4A at 48V. You can then also connect the bulbs between phase and star point and measure again to ensure all 3 phase can give a good output if the star point is available. Edited January 4, 20242 yr by Scorp007
