Hi Guys

Need some help to see if i understand it correct. For example lets say i have a system that is generating 1000 W and my house is using 500 W that means i am of the grid for at least this time and not consuming anything from the grid ?

Secondly if i generate 1000 W and my house is pulling 1300 W do i only pay the utility for the 300 W i could not generate or do inverters not work in this way

This will depend on the inverter and how you have it set up, but with appropriate hardware - yes. 1000W generation against a 500W load takes me off the grid during that time, with the balance (500W) going into the batteries if they're not already fully charged.

Again it'll depend on setup, but yes. In my own case I even allow the balance to come from my batteries (as long as they're above a certain percentage during the day). So in this example, assuming batteries are above that percentage, then 1000W would come from PV generation,  300W would come from batteries, and 0W would come from grid.

If the batteries are already at/below the minimum percentage then they stay unused and it becomes: 1000W from PV generation,  0W from batteries, and 300W would come from grid.

As additional info, the full grid-tied hybrid inverters like Sunsynk or Deye will do all of the above and more.

At the lower end of the spectrum, some models of off-grid hybrid inverters may not be able to blend power from different sources, while other models even from the same manufacturer maybe could, but then they might not allow a pass-through from grid above the rated power. Best might be to state which inverter you are interested in buying, check the manual, and ask around from the forum who knows that inverter in detail.
