Sunsynk grid peak shaving with inline diesel generator

Featured Replies

Hi All

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I've got a diesel generator connected inline with my mains (connected to an automatic changeover switch).

I've got a 3 phase 12kwh Sunsynk inverter. It doesn't know if it's Eskom or the Generator supplying its "grid" input.

When there is loadshedding and the batteries are getting low, I want to turn on the generator and use it to charge up the batteries.

The problem is that the inverter thinks it's Eskom connected and tries to power the load in the house and charge the batteries which overloads the generator and causes it to shutdown.

What I'd like to do is use the grid peak shaving feature to limit the inverter from drawing beyond the generator's maximum rated output.

I've tried all different combinations of grid peak shaving settings on work mode 1 and 2 and the inverter seems to ignore them all and draw as much as it wants from the grid and overloads the generator.

Does anyone know how to set up grid peak shaving correctly?

Thank you
