Opinions on Solis three phase grid ties

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if one can use a Solis 15kw 3P LV Hybrid Inverter, wired as grid-tie, i.e. with no battery and grid input, AC-coupled to 3 x Victron 5 kVA Multis, to do the frequency derating by the Multis? The system is totally offgrid, just with a generator input once in a while when they need it.

Looks like the Multiplus 2 and S6 can do what you want. It seems unconventional to have a composite three phase setup control a single three phase inverter. Why not replace the Multiplus inverters with the S6? While on generator, you won't be able to phase shift.

Yes, it should technically work if the Solis firmware supports frequency-watt derating (frequency shifting / droop control) in island mode, and many people have AC-coupled Solis units to Victron systems successfully. But I would definitely verify the exact Solis model + firmware because some regional Solis firmware versions historically did not respond correctly to Victron frequency shifting. Also ensure the PV inverter sizing (factor 1 rule) is sensible relative to the 3 × 5kVA Multis and battery bank.

Thanks, frivan. I’ve done it before with 3 × Quattros and a Solis grid-tied inverter. In this case, they are not MultiPlus-II units. The roof with the PV panels connected to the Victron charge controllers is full; therefore, we want to use another roof for the Solis. That way, one only has to run a communications cable to the Victrons, about 40 m away. This also increases the available daytime power by 15 kW, and taking load off the Victrons.
