October 25, 20241 yr Hie all A customer, rather installer, brought in a FiveStar 5kv inverter with a flashing solar icon on screen. Signalling a problem with the panels input. However the installer insisted the panels were within range as they were outputting 140vdc, ie a string of 4 panels with a 41v voc each. Totalling 164vdc ideally. The rated solar input is 125vdc-450vdc. I then opened the inverter and changed a 1000uf capacitor which was visibly swollen. Also changed a 100uf capacitor which was now measuring 20uf. Still the solar icon was flashing. I went on site and measured 140vdc voc. I then suggested we clean the panels. Just after finishing the fourth one , the inverter started charging from solar. Problem solved 😌 👌. I then advised the installer to add more panels, two or so.

Minimum you should clean is twice a year.
