Need help with Combiner box

Featured Replies

Good day,

When I bough the house there was solar installed. I have upgraded the inverter to Sunsynk 8kw, there was 12 x 265watt panels connected in 2 strings, then connected to 1 MPPT. Yesterday I replaced the 12 panels with 12 x JA Solar panels 615, 2 strings. But my Combiner box can take 5 strings but I see only 1 out for the MPPT.

Is there a way with the current combinder box to the Output be 2 x for MPPT’s?

Yes you can just do a few wiring changes and have 2 sets of surge arresters and with it the isolator for each string with the CORRECT fuses for you new panels.

I would wire the negative of the one string to the left hand of the DC breaker and wire the negative of other string to the right hand side. From there go to the inverter. Bypass the whole box on the positive side.

Yes, but you will need some extra components.

Namely, an additional lightning protector, and an additional isolator.

You would also need to make more space in the box to accommodate this. As you would be running 2 strings only, you can remove 3 of the bottom fuses and 3 of the top fuses. You would also need to remove what I can only assume is the copper busbar from the top of the fuses, that combine it to 1 single line.
