Customers who do not want to feed power back shouldn't have to accept a bidirectional meter and a reseller's tariff. OTOH the utility is entitled to fit a meter that will not pass a credit if power is fed back.

A few years ago I found the George munic the best I have heard of. Registration took place via the installer. A very ugly bulky bidirectional was installed. Then I found the options very customer driven. You were allowed to push back and it is recorded but no credit for it. Then you could get credit for pushing back. When you were pushing back without credits it meant there was no need for a CT or relay. It was up to the user.

They also allowed you to test drive the options and even sent out regular reports with usage graphs to assist you to decide which option is best. This I found very good service.

At the time there was no need to change the current meter.
