February 28Feb 28 Hi, Hope I am posting this in the correct place.I have got Solar Assistant to load on my Raspberry Pi 3+ after a lot of effort. I can log in but I am not seeing any data in the dashboard, is this normal on the trial?I am connected to my Axpert Mk1 5Kw inverter through the USB port. I have tried 4 different cables, all tested and working as data cables, but still not seeing any info. Can anyone offer any advice, or do I have to buy the full version to get data to show. I thought it would at least show me data but not allow me to control anything in the inverter. Does it only really work with the RS232 cable? Also I have the option to access Inverter, Grid and Battery, but not Solar PV, is this normal, RegardsBarry
February 28Feb 28 Hey Barry,Yes you can use it in Trial mode, and get all the metrics.Just to be clear you are using the USB Type B cable > https://solar-assistant.io/help/inverters/voltronic/MKS-5000-48/usb-bMake sure that before hitting "Connect" that you actually select the cable (click so that it's highlighted, then its selected) that shows in the USB Ports section.
February 28Feb 28 Author Hi Carl, Thanks for the reply. No, I am connected with a USB Micro cable as that is the only USB port on the inverter. Looks like I'll have to go down the Rs232 route.Been having issues with the inverter shutting down randomly in the evening and was wanting to see what might be the issue. Had it for 7/8 years and there have been quite a few issues. Am thinking of replacing it, but wanted to know if the problem might be fixable before spending more cash.We are totally off grid, so reliant on the system.RegardsBarry
March 8Mar 8 Author Hi Carl,Managed to engage brain and follow the setup instructions correctly eventually. Got Solar assistant working using the USB Micro cable. Had a few more random shutdowns, weirdly nearly always around the same time at night, 11.20 - 11.30pm. Have changed the cable connecting batteries to the inverter to a commercial one rather than my home made one and not had any shut downs since, so maybe that had something to do with it, time will tell.I still have Watchpower via my phone and the error message in the log when the shutdowns happen is always ´Line fail´RegardsBarry
March 9Mar 9 Good to hear you got SA working.Weird though that the fault would happen around that time only...but I have come across weird cable issues across all types of devices.Sounds like if the inverter loses comms with the batteries it shuts down, do you have a BMS Error Stop setting on the inverter? March 9Mar 9 Author Hi Carl,The inverter seems to have done weird things ever since we've had it.First time today since it has been shutting down we have needed to run the generator and it is not charging the batteries while the generator is running. It is showing 230v coming in but nothing going to the batteries even with just a small load on the system.Have tried restarting the inverter a couple of times and also the generator without success.Hopefully we have enough reserve in the batteries for overnight, good sunny day forecast for tomorrow so will get them charged up during the day at least.I have never had 100% confidence in the inverter and I think it may be time to replace it. Running 4 US2000C Pylontech batteries so will have to see what my options are regarding inverters that will work with them. Edited March 9Mar 9 by DustnyLuca Spelling
