Direct HV Battery Connection to VSD Systems – Made Simple by LBSA

Featured Replies

At Lithium Batteries South Africa (LBSA), we’re seeing more farmers streamline their operations with solar-powered VSD systems.

But many still face one big limitation: VSDs rely completely on solar to run equipment like pivots. That’s where our Rhino Intelliflex High Voltage Battery steps in. Our HV battery can be connected directly to a VSD via the MPPT input by wiring the battery in parallel with the solar panels. This gives your system the flexibility farmers have been asking for. Here’s how it works: During the day Your solar panels power your load through the VSD while the battery absorbs any excess energy. In the evening (around 6 p.m.) When your solar panels stop producing power, the battery automatically takes over - allowing you to run equipment like pivots for a few extra hours after sunset. Early mornings (5 a.m. to 8 a.m.) Before the sun is up and your PV comes alive again, the battery powers your pivots. Once daylight returns, the battery recharges using the available solar energy. Important for proper operation: Your solar array’s open-circuit voltage (Voc) should be 15–40% higher than the battery’s charge voltage. This ensures the battery charges effectively during the day. With LBSA, your solar-powered VSD setup doesn’t stop when the sun goes down - and neither does your farm.
