Looking at purchasing a axpert 5kva vm3 along with a blue nova 52/4kwh.   

Would this setup get me through loadshedding 2.5h with a load of 1500w and still have the 20% remaining?

    Not taking any conversion losses into consideration, you will use 2.5 x 1500 = 3750wh. that will leave you with 250wh in reserve. (6.25%)
