Maximum charging current for batteries

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a 4kW off-grid PV system. I want to use a 48V 85amp controller and I am wondering if this is OK to use a 4 12V 110Ah batteries (in series) because I see that their maximum charging current is 30Amps and the controller at maximum will give 85amps.

Thanks,

Anan

Hey, what controller are you using? MPPT or PWM?

If it provides 85 amps and is 48v it is without a doubt mppt. Pwm is normally 12-24v and provides a maximum of about 50 amps.

Some charge controllers can set a maximum charge current. If so, set it to 30 A. If there is no such setting, then 85 A will certainly be bad for a lead acid battery specified for a maximum charge current of 30 A.
