The Windows webcam yes. And using Skype you can even tell Sipho what to do if you are not with him.

Or if there is no-one, and there is, was a problem, you can give the video to the insurer to show what the dinges happened. :P

Wake on lan is free. Even over the internet. ;)

It's something implemented in the networking hardware. A device can go to sleep, but the network interface stays awake and monitors network activity. Most of it it just ignores, but if a special kind of packet (that tells it to wake up) is specifically addressed to that device, it will wake up the rest of the computer. The computer goes into low-power mode in other words, and comes up quickly when you tell it to.

Whether your average tablet even supports this, and whether your average wifi interface does... that's a different question. If the hardware already supports it, then what TTT says applies: WOL is free, you already paid for it.
