  1. Yup, mine is pretty much exactly the same except I only have a circuit breaker on the positive cable between the inverter and the battery. My plan is to plug a panel into the bottom right soloar-in ports (I think my inverter is similar to yours). I'll have a 14A fuse on the positive cable from the solar panel.

  3. Hello! I have a RCT 1.2kva inverter connected to a Revov 12v 2.54kwh battery. It isn't connected to the distribution board at all - there's an AC in to charge the battery and a multiplug on the inverter for AC out that I plug in my computer and TV to. I wanted to check whether there are any COC requirements or the like that I need to consider when connecting a solar panel to that setup. It'll remain disconnected from the grid outside of the AC in I use to charge the battery. Thanks!
  4. Thanks! The short circuit voltage for the panel is 14A, so will try a 15A fuse. Because the panel's maximum wattage is slightly in excess of the inverter's MPPT, I'd rather the fuse blow that I'll put between the panel and the inverter than the fuse within the inverter.
  5. Ola! I have a Axpert 1kva 12v inverter with a Revov 12v 2.54kwh battery. I've ordered a 550w solar panel to add to the system to reduce the drain on the battery during loadshedding and to help increase the charging current after. I want to have a circuit breaker between the solar pane and the inverter but am unsure around sizing. Is a solar fuse better than a DC breaker for this scenario? For a breaker I think a 63a single pole would work but am not sure of whether that amperage is suitable in this case. The inverter's MPPT is 500w max but it's unlikely the 550w panel will ever produce anything over 500w. Thanks!

  8. Hello! I built a loadshedding backup solution using a single Revov 200ah 12v 2nd life battery and a RCT 1KW 12v MPPT inverter. I configured the inverter to use a "custom" battery instead of AGM or lead acid, and set the bulk, float, and cut off voltage values as specified by Revov. After charging (the inverter's charging light stays a solid green) the inverter shows the battery voltage to be 13.7v, but the BMS shows this as 13.6. When the mains power goes out, the inverter immediately shows the voltage drop from 13.7 to 13.5 (load is only about 200w). Looking at the BMS app, it shows that the four cells aren't balanced. Stats: TotalVolt: 13.60v. Balance: ON (apparently it's try to balance the cells but this never completes, even if left charging for days) Cell information: Cell 1: 3.50v Cell 2: 3.38v Cell 3: 3.36v Cell 4: 3.36v My question is, do I try and make use of the cell balancing setting on the inverter by enabling it? If so, which values should I use? I think it needs to set a time to specify how long to run the balancing for. One more question - do I increase the float charge to 13.8v seeing as it's sitting at 13.6v on the battery and drops immediately from 13.7v (as per the inverter's reading) to 13.5 when AC power goes?   9. Hello My company is moving offices and we're no longer needing our battery backup solution. We have 16 x 12v 100ah VISION 6FM100Z-X batteries wired in a powder coated battery cabinet. Commissioned in March 2019, but not used for the past six months. Never discharged below 80% (turned out to be massively over-provisioned based on changing circumstances of what we needed to keep powered during loadshedding.) Based in Pinelands, Cape Town. R25,000 ex. VAT onco.
  10. I have the 1000 VA version and I believe it has the same batteries - 2 x 7ah 12v lead acid batteries. These UPSs are terrible at providing DC power because it takes the 12V DC from the battery, converts to 230V AC that the 3 point plug at the back of the unit provides, and then your router's power adapter converts that 230V AC back to ~12V DC. If you're just looking to power your router and ONT box then rather go for something like this: https://www.takealot.com/ultralan-micro-ups-dc-usb-poe-17w-8-8ah/PLID70776331 (< R500) - probably not much more than what you'd pay for two new lead acid batteries. Has lithium batteries and outputs either 9V or 12V DC. Comes with a splitter cable that lets you plug your router and ONT directly into the UPS meaning you won't need those devices' power adapters anymore (unless you want to plug them into the mains again.) If you're set on using the UPS then have a look at the 12v 9ah batteries instead of the 7ah. Have had a few peeps mention the battery sizes are the same.
  11. Hi Everyone Like all of South Africa I'm trying to reduce loadshedding's impact by keeping a few things powered. My power needs aren't too crazy: 300 watt continuous draw, perhaps bursting to 500 watts for a few seconds. Total energy needed probably only around 600 watt-hours over 2.5 hours of loadshedding. I'm renting so can't cable into the DB, so the inverter/charger will need to have a plug/input for mains power to recharge the battery, and an outlet that I can attach a multi-plug to that devices will draw power from. Keen to use a lithium battery for improved cycle count and DoD. Which inverter/charger and battery combo will work best for this? I thought that a single Hubble S-100 100ah 12v battery would suffice along with a RTC 12v Axpert inverter/charger. Any advice would be much appreciated!
