Good morning. Just some feedback. I changed the Batt Type to USE and changed charging & floating voltages as suggested and removed the COMS cable. Battery shows 100% and everything seems good. Thank you very much for your patience & help. Mush appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. In my head, and maybe it is because I am wired like that: If the book/manual recommends something, I lean towards that rather that something else. So, the question in my head: "By changing battery type to User, will it not be less efficient than choosing Lithium and let the inverter's BMS handle the charging of the battery?" I have two Hi-5 batteries but disconnected the one to first see if I can find the problem with one, resolve it and then connect the other again. By changing battery type to "Use", will I still need the coms cable between the batteries themselves and between the batteries and the inverter? I really appreciate your time and help together with @Antonio de Sa . Thanks very much.

Thanks. I changed it to 100% and it now sites at 85%. What bugs me is that it still uses battery even though I have setting 1 (Output source priority) at UTI. I will keep on trying.

Hi again. I have not sorted this out completely. Battery type, setting 05 = Li 005 I need to force the inverter to charge my battery to 95%. I have two x HINA ESS Hi-5 5kW batteries but disconnected one for this. I am only running one and see if I can force the inverter to charge it to 95% in setting 13. For some reason I don't understand it doesn't go past 81%. Settings: 01: SUB (for some reason the charging keeps switching between Charging and Batt output) 02: Max AC Charge current: 60A 12: B2AC : 35% 13: AC2B : 95% 14: SNU I need to change the settings no charge the battery to 95% as first priority and it can use solar/and or utility, as long as charging is the first priority. I will appreciate it if you can assist in pointing out what I am doing wrong. Much appreciated.

Good afternoon and thanks for your help. I have this inverter with 2 x 5kW (200Ah) lipo batteries. A month or so you guys helped me to change the settings so that I can get the best economics out of my setup. It makes a noticeable difference on electricity consumption. Here are the settings: 1 : SOL 12: b2AC - 25% 13: AC2B - 70% 14: OSO This means the batteries only charge to 75%. We battle in our area with unexpected power outages. This has happened at, let's say 16:00 and power only came back on the next day. In the light of this, I need to be able to randomly, because we never know when it happens, to have the batteries fully charged by 17:00. I am battling to find the correct settings for this. When I got the inverter I remember I had setting 1 on SBU or SOL; I cannot remember. It changed over to the batteries and solar till the sun sets and utility charged it to 100%. But now I cannot get the inverter charging the batteries past 79%. And there is no setting with that value. Will you kindly please help me with the correct settings to have the batteries charged to 100%? 95% is also good. Thank you very much.

Good morning. Based on my question and all the replies, this is what I currently have: #1 : SOL #12 : 25% #13 : 95% #14 : OSO Battery currently (08:53) at 78% and also uses UTIL to charge. Is there something else or are these settings wrong? I don't want to use AC during the day. I can change settings remotely should I need to. Thanks for your help & advice.

Very happy 1st October to all. Oktober, die mooiste, mooiste maand. (CJ Langenhoven) Setup: 2 x 100AH Li-PO batteries (48v) 6 x 550W panels I want to use as little as possible utility. Current Settings on my menu: 1: SUB & 14: SNU I initially has #1 on Solar. So, the inverter changed over to solar as soon as it detects sunlight and changes back to utility when it is dark. The problem here is that it then uses utility to charge the battery to 95%. It then uses more electricity to get it full again than what I saved during the day by using solar & batteries. I also tried setting #49 where I set the time that utility must charge the batteries. I never could this to work. Is there someone out here who can help me with optimal settings for this inverter and setyp. This inverter does not have the BMS that other inverters have where I can set it to be fully charged by 17:00 or something like that. Thanks so long.

Hi again. I have my second Lithium battery now for a bit more than 24 hours. #1 SBU #12 40% (Voltage point back to utility) #13: 95% (Voltage point back to utility) #14: SNU (Charger source priority) I'm battling to find the thing to work as I need it to ... and the cloudy weather the past few days don't help. Today I also involved setting the charging times. I've learned that it won't use utility to charge in the set time if battery voltage does not drop below 40%. the one time it did, it did not charge batteries to 95% as set in #13. It stopped charging even it has not reached the end of the time frame set in #49. I noticed that and the battery voltage was 54%. Nowhere did I set something like that or close to that. For now I need to know how to set the inverter that it must charge the batteries to 95% before 23:00. By doing this, I know that it will carry our "night-load" till sunrise where solar will then top up the batteries enough for the day. Maybe I understand the settings wrong. For the last 3 months we only had the one 100Ah battery which I knew will not take us through the night. I had #1 on SOL and #14 at SNU. It started charging the battery to 100% with sunset and changed to solar with sunrise. But now, with the second battery, I want to take as much as possible from the sun, as little as possible from utility to get the batteries to 95% and then use only battery to carry us through the night. Apologies for all the questions. I need to understand how the settings work and if some setting(s) always has priority over another. Thanks so much. Deon (On the attached graph you will see that utility did not switch off after the battery was full and charging went on well after 23:59 since that was the time set to stop charging with utility. At 02:00 the batteries were sitting at 90% which would've taken us to sunrise when solar was supposed to take over, but it didn't.)

Thanks very much for your reply. I will definitely give your option #1 settings a go. My ideal situation is to use daylight to run our house which is about 600W average and weekend daytime more. But I want to use Eskom as little as possible to top up the batteries. Thanks again.

Thanks very much for the reply. Our geyser is not going through the inverter. It is on a Geyser Wise and only on 2hours in the morning and 2 in the late afternoon. I'm going to replace the geyser with a gas geyser in the next month or so.

Good morning. I need your advice and settings. Current setup: 1 x 5kW SPF Growatt inverter 2 x 5.1kW lithium batteries in parallel 6 x 550W solar panels I have this setup for about a year know. Output source priority: Solar : Inverter changes to solar only and switches Escom off when it is light enough and switches back to utility when dark enough. During the day power is supplied to the house from panels and batteries. It happens almost daily, except for when it is overcast, that the batteries are fully charged at around 13:00 and maintained till ±16:00 when light not efficient enough and draws from batteries. When inverter switches back to use utility alone to charge batteries, it can be so that it is only fully charged anything from 20:00 - 21:00, depending on battery levels when it changed back to Escom only. I haven't measured it, but I am confident that I am using more utility to charge the batteries after sunset than what I "saved" during daytime by using solar. Unfortunately the inverter's BMS does not have an option to use solar to make sure the batteries are fully charged round about 18:00 or so. The closest to something like this is Menu #49 & #50 where I can enter a utility charging time and a stop time. But, then I cannot have SOL as my only "Output source priority". I'm not sure what it needs to be but it seems to be either SUB or SBU. I will appreciate some feedback from other Growatt users about your settings. I know I should probably have to add more panels but that is not possible at this stage. Thanks so long.

Switch off Eskom from 8am to 4pm
Hi Saluki. I have the same inverter and sort off the same question. I also want to get the most out of daylight, but also want my battery to be fully charged at, let's say, 19:00 in summer. We recently had some power outages at 20:00 and then the battery was not fully charged. I don't want to use more units to charge my battery after sunset than I "saved" by being off grid during daytime. Setting 01: I set mine on solar. (Sol) This means that when the inverter senses enough sun on the panels, it switches off Eskom. It then runs on solar & battery. When sunlight is not enough to do any significant charging, it changes back to Eskom. This setting does not cause the battery to be fully charged at 19:00 or when the sun sets. Setting 49: This setting allows us to set a time to start & stop time charging the battery with Eskom. But it doesn't work as I want it to. Earlier today I changed setting 01 to SBU, setting 14 to SNU (Solar & Utility) and setting 49 to start using Eskom to charge at 16:00 and end at 19:00. It is now 16:50 and is indeed helping solar to charge my battery. I just had a look and currently the inverter is importing 95W of Eskom to help solar, currently 490W to power the household while charging the battery. I only have my Lithium battery for a week now and was experimenting with settings. I am glad to discover at this moment it seems to do what I want it to. I must mention that this will be my settings for when we don't have loadshedding. At this stage, I think our load is just a bit too big to go through the night without Eskom. Our load during the night ranges between from 400-550W. Good luck with your settings. Maybe there is some here with the same inverter that can shed some light onto what we want to achieve. Deon

Optimal settings for daytime use?
Good morning. Setup: Sacolar/Growatt ES5000 5kw Inverter with 1 x HINA ESS Hi-5 & 6 x 550W solar panels. Inverter setup: Output source priority. This means that the inverter switches op to solar when it senses good sunlight and switches back to utility when sunlight not effective anymore. During this time the battery is either being used or charged. Observation & question: Our household use on average uses ±5kWh during the week and weekends a little bit more during daytime when we are on solar and don't use anything from the grid. I've noticed that the battery takes ±2 hours to charge to full using grid. Taking this into consideration, does it not use more from the grid to charge than what we are "saving" during the day by using solar? What will be the ideal settings for our inverter to use solar during the day and also use solar to charge the battery before sunset? I've attached a report from our inverter for 15 November. What percentage for cutoff with 48V system?
Hi. I'm getting confused here with some basic maths but then I also don't understand the question. On my inverter with a HINA ESS Hi-5 battery, I need to set the cutoff voltage but as a percentage. According to the sticker on the side, suggested cutoff voltage is 49-50V. The inverter asks for a percentage. Is it percentage used or percentage left. Please help me with the correct value for 49V as a percentage. Thanks. Deon

BMS: Sacolar/Growatt ES5000 5kw Inverter with HINA ESS Hi-5
Good afternoon. I've had the inverter for just about 18months but with 4 x 12V 180AH refurbished solar tower batteries. When 3rd one in almost 24 months failed, I decided to bite the bullet and bought a lithium battery. I battled with the setup of the BMS on the inverter. I found a post here from about a year ago with the solution. The battery's protocol is L52. Questions: How will I know if it is the correct protocol? How do I know the BMS is working and doing it's thing? Thanks a lot for your advice.

Growatt Generic (The Sun Pays) : Set to line mode
Hi everyone. I have the above 5kW inverter and been using it for about 18 months now with 4 x 12V 180AH refurbished lead acid batteries. In the 18 months I had to replace two batteries and now one of the original ones have died. I need to put the inverter in "Line mode" to tell the inverter there are no batteries installed. It is described in the manual. But I cannot find the setting to change it to line mode. I tried to change the charging voltage to 00.0V but it doesn't save the setting. I will appreciate your help, please. Thank you very much.

SOLVED - Borehole Pump: Soft Starter
Good morning. Soft Starter, 400V (3 Ph) for 1.5kW motor This is what happens. I start the pump and everything works as it should for ±20minutes and then the pump stops. All good pressure and nothing wrong with the performance. It is not because of air in the pipe as there are no audible air bubbles in the sprinklers. When switching on the pump again, I first have to press the "Stop" button and then the start. It wil not start without pressing "Stop" first. To me it means that there is something wrong with the soft starter. It is as if the starter does not "know" that the pump is off. Maybe it is a faulty contactor/relay that doesn't have enough power to hold it in? I can send you a picture but the soft starter is in a box with only a red and green button. Is it serviceable so I can take it off and take somewhere to check it out? Thanks.
