Rules and Regulations (Plz help me understand this)
The new owner had a problem with the garage door motors on an extension lead. Then the contractor built the garage, we did not ask for the garage to be electrified. Years later, I replaced the garage doors with metal pop-up doors, and the installer added motors to the doors. it was a nice deal, and I went for it. An electrician installed an electrical cable from the DB to the garage with a plug in the garage and issued a COC.. I asked him what about the motors, and he said use a lead, and that's what I did..The new owner did not like the lead, she wanted the motor wires to be in a metal/plastic pipe..PPL use electrical leads for about everything. The garage door motors in my new house also run with a lead to the plugs on the roof rafters. I did not worry about her crap

Rules and Regulations (Plz help me understand this)
Thanks, yeah i had some experience with electricians when I sold my previous house. Days after the new owner moved in she ph me to let me know she is going to take me to court because there are problems with the electrical system as per HER ELECTRICIAN... I just cut the call..are they out to make money and find problems with every house/installation..My house is new, 4 yrs old, but I will get an electrician to come and check out the Solar installation and get the paperwork in place, don't think I will register the system with the Municipality, well not yet..

Rules and Regulations (Plz help me understand this)
I read the following and know nothing about the rules and reg's, plz help me understand or advise me on what to do.. Yelland agreed with the Electrical Contractors Association of South Africa (Ecasa), who previously told MyBroadband that using an ECSA-registered person for embedded generation was unnecessary. “According to the Electrical Installation Regulations 2009, an Installation Electrician (IE) can work on any electrical installation, except for specialised or hazardous locations,” Ecasa said. “Similarly, a Master Installation Electrician (MIE) is permitted to work on any installation, covering AC voltages up to 1,000 volts and DC installations up to 1,500 volts.” While not a requirement, Yelland and Ecasa have explained that a standard already existed to enable qualified electricians to approve embedded generation systems. South Africa had already adopted the IEC 60349-7-712 standard — renamed SANS 60364-7-712 — to address the necessary technicalities and appropriate safety standards on solar PV system installations. Yelland believes that Eskom has overstepped the mark by putting this requirement in the NRS and will be required to take it out. “Things will go back to what exists at the moment, which is that the system has to be signed off with a CoC issued by a registered electrician or electrical contractor,” he said.

First time on/off switching.
That's how I do it, ok, only once when we upgraded the panels, but it worked 100%..(no smoke)😀

Thank you..Regards.

WIFI Switch on incoming power to the DB
Gents, Don't worry. I don't even open the DB board's see-through cover, so I won't go fooling around with the electrical system in the house. My question is, Do you get a WiFi switch that can be installed on the Eskom supply on the house DB?

Switch off Eskom from 8am to 4pm
Geyser-wise is installed.. settings are 55c from 10 am till 12.00. 2 hrs is enough. The water solar on the roof and pump will take it up to 72c during the day..

Switch off Eskom from 8am to 4pm
Correct. I try to run about everything off solar power during the day and let the battery do whatever we need at night. The inverter setting is SBU, but somehow, there is still an Eskom trickle of about 5 units over 24 hours should I leave Eskom on. That's with the geyser element off as per the Geyser wise settings, but the Geyser wise pump will circulate the water to and from the water solar panel on the roof using Eskom. With Eskom ON we use about 14 units over 24hrs, Eskom off 4.5/5 units over 24hrs..I'm retired and don't mind doing the switching..I just wanted to know if it is okay for the inverter to "work" the fan running temp 30c for 8hrs..We don't use the microwave or dishwasher with Eskom off.. By 9an in the morning the battery is back to 100%charge, and it never drops below 78% during the night.. Best Regards..

Switch off Eskom from 8am to 4pm
I make use of my solar system by turning off the Eskom power daily from 8 am to 4 pm, that's now if the weather permits. From 4 pm the solar will supply the house until the sun goes down and then the battery will take over through the night and supply the house. The battery never drops lower than 80%. I cannot change the system's setting and until I find someone who can do it I will turn off the Eskom power myself for the day, weather permitting.. My question is, Will I damage the system by running the inverter from 8 to 4? The geyser, stove, microwave and dishwasher are off when the Eskom power is off. Whenever we want to use the high power equipment I switch on the Eskom power. The wife will not use the iron if the inverter is online and Eskom is down..She is quite good and solar wise..My system is 6X555W panels, Growatt inverter SPF 5000ES and Easy 5.1kw battery. 24hr Eskom usage is about 4.7units Verskoon die swak Engels.. Dankie Dries

No Longer a peeping tom
The man who installed my solar panels took several readings from a cell phone app and then used the best option and sun angle..Seeing that you are still in the planning phase, I suggest you do your tests with your cell phone and the app. You have the time for it, use it

Easy Power 5.1kwh in "sleep mode"
Morning all, Solar setup; Growatt 5000ES inverter with an Easy Power 5.1kw/h battery and 6x265w panels connected to Eskom (no export). (Luv to get more panels.) Installed 12/5/2023 My problem is that sometimes the battery goes into "sleep mode" with only 2 green LEDs on instead of 4 at the SOC. On the inverter readout panel the battery indicate 100% charge. Do i need to worry about the 2 green LED's and call out the installer or is the battery just in a "rest" mode? Everything else works 100% and load shedding is something of the past. Keep up the good work and interesting topics. Regards, Dries
