AXPERT MAX 8000 90v sticky MPPT and related issues (28066 DSP)
as continuation of an other tread i start here a new thread for the Axpert Max 8000 which has the newer DSP Processor. People which have low PV production issues with this Inverter and search for solutions will initially not know which DSP Processor they even have. So, if your Main Firmware is 72.xx or 92.xx ex works its likely a model with the newer 28066 DSP Processor. My Inverters are factory date 05/2022 and seems to be the early ones with new DSP Processor. Some Inverters have issies with low PV production as MPPT sticks at around 90 Volt and i have additional AC Out losses and F80 Errors in as 3Phase parallel configuration Already ongoing modifications and optimizations of the 92.04 Version did not solve my issues yet. I got now original Firmware 72.62 HV Affected users could try this Version and the technicians here could compare changes of this newer 72.62 HV with 92.04 Here is the download. Use at your own risk! VERIFY that you have the correct Inverter Model before trying this Firmware. MAX_HV8k 72.62.7z I have it running now for a day, panels still covered with snow. Up to now system was stable, the MPPTs did not stick at 90v the MPPT kept voltage on 120v and increased amps PV Production and peak watt is only a bit less than yesterday where i had installed patched Firmware Version 92.06 i had (yet) no AC Out losses and no resulting F80 Errors Next days will become warmer and more sunny. so the snow will melt down from the panels and i will be able to see the behavior with more watts but hey, already 30 hours without Can Bus error F80

This thread started for the Max 8k about the MPPT issue before it became clear there are 2 DSP versions for the same model. So i cannot see any dedication of this tread to the older DSP chip models only. There are even posts about the similar but different 11k models in this thread. Excuse me if i was misposting in this thread wrongly.

This is original firmware 72.62 HV, for the Axpert Max 1 8 kW, with the removable display. This firmware is for the newer DSP Chip, Arena Flash tool, Startup Voltage seem to be 120v Use at your own risk! Have flashed it to 4 Inverters well Helper PSU to Solar cable unplugged, Results unknown yet. maybe @Coulomb, @Georg594can have a more in depth look into it

@Coulomb do you think it is worth to try a firmware version with startup voltage set to 75volt when the pcb cable is unplugged? it could overcome these 75v easily and quickly increase amps.

Thank you for the chart. In fact, this proves that MPPT spikes influence the whole system in one or the other incorrect way. as 2 parallel have shorter transfer time than 3Phase, maybe in your case the system manage to switch to battery right in time instead of loosing AC Out. Both parallel types have to monitor and regulate frequency timing synchronization, but 3Phase needs additionally monitor phase timing shift. so maybe in a parallel single phase the AC Out could be avoided as there is a load balancing for the same phase. i think the F80 is a correct reaction in both parallel types and we need to find the source to these reactons. i also think that the MPPTs of the newer DSP chip models work / behave differently from the older chip versions, so maybe voltronic has not yet really adopted the newer firmwares to the newer DSP but did only a drop in replacement with some get it working quickly fixes. it seems that the older DSP models work well with the patched versions, but my models with newer DSP defintitively still have issues with the MPPT. It also proves that these spikes appear most often when the MPPT is sticky or (of course) releases from the sticky point) (and no matter what is the definition of startup voltage in the patched versions) ( i found one spike in the middle of the night to 60v, panels covered with snow, so its not from the moon) based on my SA charts i even want to go further and say a spike in one inverter can create an AC Out loss in an other inverter (CAN Bus communication and correction attempts) to power the CAN Boards separately is a very good idea, but i will first wait if there is a chance to solve the MPPT spikes issue as i have the feeling that this also solves the F90 Please see how nicely it goes up to 200v (Version 92.06) first, then it becomes shaggy and dropping down about close to 30 volt, and at 8:25 the pink spike causing AC Out Loss on P3 AND P2. survived without F80 as the amps are still below 0,2

92.06 200v version 90v spike on 3P3, AC Out loss, F80. MPPT spikes bigger than 30 volt creates AC Out losses Original startup voltage 90v Real production start at 70-80 and freeze at 95-100v (around 30 volt difference) Helper PCB inject 60v 90v original startup - 60v from hpsu = again 30 volt Battery 50v and 30v = 80v where pv production starts. My 3P3 has now startup voltage of 200, but runs at ~ 175v in average (spikes to 265v) again here we have a number of around 30v so the 30 volts (or 24v maybe?) seem to be somehow magic for MPPT, like the 0,2 amps

yes! the more close the statup voltage is to nominal panel voltage the better it works. i think 5-10% below is good. @Coulombplease would it be possible that you make me 92.06 with 210v for my 3P1 and 3P2 (both MPPT) 245 volt startup for my 3P3 (both MPPT) green and orange is 6x36,7v= 220v pink is 7x36,7v = 256v and pink is locked in again and makes spikes because it wants to go higher but cannot and as on the second chart of @add1c7ed55 i think he would need then a 330v version. would be very interesting to see difference and parallels on his much higher voltage.

Patched 192.04 i flashed now to 92.06 patched 200v version Something in the firmware or hardware suppresses the MPPT to go up in Voltage. It spikes up to full voltage momentarily and this causes the AC out loss followed up by F80 in my case. 92.06 has higher startup voltage, this should in theory make the spikes smaller and less riskt for F80. in the second screenshot from @add1c7ed55 it looks like a similar phenomen locked in at 183v beginning from 15.50. (i guess you have the 200v version) as the day before it was at 90v the same time locked in. so in my opinion the locked in phenomen is less prone but just moved higher from 90v to 175/200 (depending on version) in the patched firmware. i think the basic problem still exist, even with the solar cable unplugged from the helper PCB.

ARGHH, and this power switch caused now an F80 Correction: the reason for this F80 was not the Grid Off ON but it was another Spike +95v in MPPT1 of 3P3

The Grid "power on" is still blocking the MPPT: see the chart pink line. grid off, Panel voltage and watt up, grid on, panel voltage and watt down: its a 100 volt difference! another cable to pull? 🙂

if the helper supply board or the mppt board is buggy and gives spikes to the MPPT this results in changes of the bus voltage. such sudden changes managed to create AC OUT losses and in this case the F80 is even a correct reaction. i think it just needed enough millisecond of AC Out loss to make F80 just a theory still working well

I looked on the panels again and It looks like snow slipped downwards on the panels and opened them partly. maybe this caused the sudden amps change. i will closely monitor this the next days. currently snow falling down from sky is faster than me with a water hose and i should use salt water. hopefully the weather to become a bit warmer the next some day and maybe will melt down a bit. sorry, there are no kangaroos in Austria 🙂 stressed the system today a bit for almost an hour. at the time when pv is close to problem time i used 8kw load on 3P3, some AC Units heating on 3P1 and 3P2, Computers running on P1, ... 15kw peak load. switched grid off / on, to BATT, to SBU, ... ALL WAS WELL! no AC OUT losses even on SBU SUB changes, no F80 I really hope the system continues perfectly stable like today. 2,9kwh today in worse weather compared to 0,9kwh yesterday Thank you @Coulomb Thank you @Georg594

I am since yesterday afternoon on 192.04 175v and Solar cables plugged off from Helper PCB and it looks veeeeery promising. Its snowing and this is how the panels look. they do in this situations 680 watts! AC Out is stable No F80 All in all, it looks like a HUGE improvement already now... As we have very stable "bad" weather and guaranteed no sun irradiation changes, i think there is still some kind of "locked in by amps" and not locked in by volts: in this chart - for absolutely no weather related issuse - suddenly the watts jump from 70 to 177 it looks like the MPPT did not find a better point for long time and suddenly found. so maybe there is still space for more optimizarion of the MPPT code

@Georg594 @Coulomb by reading your thread about plugging off the mppt cable from the help supply board: could this MPPT voltage spike be related to the help supply PCB? this spike is exactly the same time as the AC OUT power loss shall i give it a try to plug off the cable from the helper supply board on all 3 inverters? any way i dont care about batteryless as 3phase setup cannot work PV only. hint about dessmonitor: changing language once to something and then back to english solves the missing parameter.name / real.language issue

i first do some more testing. unfortunately i cannot go up the roof at the moment (snow) to modify Panels of 3P3 i plugged out all the modules of the PV overvoltage protective devices as they have common grounding to house and inverter earth, maybe one is leaking. also i keep disabled Panels of 3P3 hardly try to rule out any possible fault and find a point where system gets more stable.

Today F80 early in the morning after the first MPPT stop at 7:50, again when all MPPTs came down to 0,1a @Coulomb when sending Q7{: i get NACKss, tried 2 different terminal programs. Is it theoretically possible to make in the Firmware a MPPT startup Voltage of 120v and a minimum 0,3a and disconnect MPPT below? Both, the AC Out power losses and the F80 are always triggered exactly at the point where MPPTs come down to 0,1a ---------------- For testing i disconnected both CAN cables of 3P1 and lateron of 3P2 during running for almost a minute and did not get a fault... I have 2 CAN boards here originally packed from my MKS4. They fit, so i could change them, but i do not think a optocoupler is worn out, especially as i already rotated 3P1 with a brand new inverter and only this one show Fault and F80 while AC Out losses are always on 3P2 and 3P3. so i am very confident that any "situation" of the MPPTs causes the F80 and AC Out losses and its not primary caused to the CAN boards but more to a power sag or similar to these boards in a certain situation.

Version 92.04 Original: Survived today without F80 but with known PV power deficits due to sticky 90v. 15:07 Grid Breaker on 15.59 PV down to 0 v w a 16:16 PV startup again from athmospheric reflections, go up to 100w 16:26 all 6 MPPTs rdown to 0,1 Amps each. Exactly this moment AC Out Phase 2 and 3 Power loss for 10 seconds 13:34 all 6 MPPTs finally off for the day So i think that already original Firmware 92.04 has this basic problem and the patches intensify the behavior somehow. Maybe related to the newer DSP chip compared to Georgs chip. Is there maybe a newer Firmware 92.xx for the Max1 8k 28066 available wotth to try? I think it makes sense to first try with newer original firmwares to get system stability first before looking into 90v issue, or adding patches one by one and see what intensifies the

Max1 8k 92.04 original did well over the night. no AC Out Phase losses. PV Startup did well at 90v and amps continuously climbed up. But locked in (as expected) at 90v with 50% PV loss. i will keep 92.04 until tomorrow to see what happens with F80 8:43 Grid breaker off 3P1 & 3P2 MPPTs jumped up double watts 3P3 MPPTS still stuck at 90v, stay at 15 & 33 watt, should be at least 80w each. to be continued ...

Had not much time today for this. However, PV on 3P1 and 3P2 started up very well - PV curve very nice and parallel, made 10kwh with 4MPPT PV of Inverter 3P3 breakers was off whole day for testing as Inverter was replaced. Not one AC Out Phase loss on any phase since the inverter replacemnet the afternoon before! Happyness... ...until afternoon... 15:40 still 300w total PV Power out of 4 MPPTs 15.40 2 PV Breakers of 3P3 enabled -> got 0,1 amps / 30 watt extra 15:43 Grid breaker enabled -> MPPTs reinitialized, 3P1 & 3P2 went from 0,4 and 0,3 to 0,1 amps and did not go up any more (either locked in or really too less power) 15:45 : AC Out Loss 3P1 15:48 AC Out Loss 3P1 & 3P2 15:49 All 6 Trackers reach 0,1 amps / 100watt PV total -> Strong suddeen drop in Bus Voltage 397v down to 360v -> AC Out Power loss on all 3 Phases -> Fatal F80 My finding: when when PV gets very low watt / amps -> AC Out loss -> F80 when PV is gone away System is stable again when in the morning is enough PV power to start quickly then all is ok, when its bad weather and it has to play aroung to startup this results in F80 I have now flashed to 92.04.original to compare behaviors. i expect very cloudy wheather and snow for tomorrow and my next F80

Hi Coloumb, perfect, thank you. i will test this tomorrow on the 4th inverter first. today i replaced 3P3 Inverter with spare and since 2 hours now running. there is a small possibility that there was a weak connection on batt+ terminal screw/nut. if so, this would explain a lot. lets see an hope.
