Chris, i see that you also have the Axpert Inverter, could you maybe shed some light, when i am running on battieries alone the system gives me a low voltage warning on 24,5volt but on the axpert it is set to only cut out on 24volt. so according to the previous answers here there is still plenty of power left in the batteries. Is there something i am missing or should i just set the cutout voltage to 23.5? i am not so keen on that because i don't want to ruin my very expensive investment in batteries

ok thanks, i thought that if it is fully charged it will say 28.8v and then work its way back to 24v as it discharges. So if i understand you correctly at 25v it is still pretty full and therefore it should go into float very quickly?? does anybody know what software you get with a Axpert to monitor on a laptop. This might be very usefull to take the guesswork out

Hi, I have a potential problem Axpert 24v inverter 2 ops240 batteries (brand new) Off grid with generator backup. So today the batteries were on 25v and I started the motor to charge them, within 5 minutes the axpert says the battery voltage is 28.8 (that is my bulk and float setting voltage) and then the charging light stays on such indicates the batteries are full and not charging anymore. As soon as I put the motor of the batteries go back to 25. Something. What could be the problem here?

So my best plan is to take 2 batteries out of the system for now, buy a 48v axpert and then put the 2 batteries back. What is your opinion?

I thought such a big bank because if i only do 75% DOD on 4 batteries and not 50% DOD on 2 batteries the life expectancy of the bank will by much better. I should get 10 years put of the battery bank

I am off grid with no eskom option. I have 500watts of panels, axpert mks. I think it is around 2000watts. I have 4 omnipower 240 batteries. 8kw generator for backup. I am only on the farm over weekends so the panels must charge the batteries when i am not there and when i am there i top them up with the gennie for a hour or two.

Would it not be better to just ad a 30amp charger to the system?

So i look the decision to buy the 240omnipowers. Now i have more questions, on the battery it states that the minimum current should be 30 amps, i have 4 batteries in 24v configuration so my minimum amps should then be 60amps 24v. My axpert gives max 30 amps. Will this affect my batteries negative? Also the system goes into float charge very quikly? Could that be because i don have enough amps? These batteries were 20k so would really not like to mess them up

I have made a "Boeresom" in the following way. Trojan C10 A/h is 207 so that gives me R44,97 per 24volt amp hour Omnipower C10 A/h is 200 so that gives me R49,86 per 24volt amp hour So not much cost difference in price per amp hour. question is if the Omnipower is going to give me a longer lifespan (will discharge quite deep when in use)

Just checked my batteries with the load test as explained. There is some serious problemside with a nearly 2 volt spread between the best and worst. I am thinking of buying 2 OPS260 batteries. Any opinion for best cost effective batteries?

So after reading all your advice I have chosen to do the following. Your advice will be much appreciated. I am going to ad another string of batteries to my system with two panels and a additional solar charger. So I will put a changeover switch between my 2 batteries strings to the axpert. When I am not on the farm the satalite Internet and phone will run off the silver calciums through the system as I currently have it. When I get there for the weekend I will switch over to the new string batteries that is connected to a additional victron so that I get the solar from the additional panel as well as the solar charge from the panels connected to the axpert. This way in theory the new batteries should last me much longer as they will only bever used a couple of times per month but they will by continously charged through the victron. So far I am leaning towards those Trojans previously mentioned. Will my plan work. Any further advice will be much appreciated as this is going to be a additional R20k spend. Also keep in mind that when I am not there the house only needs 900wh per day and when I come in need 5500wh. Hence the two separate battery systems that I don't discharge my new batteries every day but rather use the silver calciums that I already own.

Hi Plonkster I use about 4000wh per 24 hours. Hot water and stove is gas. i use the PV/Batteries for a pressure pump, A+ Fridge, some lights and a satellite internet dish. I do not stay there permanently. (on averege every second weekend). Because of my short stays i prefer to use the generator for topup power. My goal is to have enough energy stored for the whole night and then i would like to run the whole day on the pannels. so i factor in 2 hours of generator power to partly charge the batteries early in the morning. 500watts of solar should be enough for my needs but that is my problem, the Axpert only alows me 600watts of pannels. so 1 have 2 255 watt panels. how do i now add a 100 watt pannel to the system? If i add it in serie the voltage will be to high. in paralell i will have the two 255 pannels coming in at 70volts. can i then add a 100watt at 35volts in paralell with the other string at a different voltage? Storage wise i have the 4 Bosch Silver Calcium batteries at 105 AH each. that will give me 105x4x12x50%=2520watt hours at full charge that should be sufficient. is that calculation correct?

Unfortunately I need to make it work. The PV and the inverter I need to keep. Batteries is in need of being replaced so I can still play around with that.

Lithium Ion is a posibility for me. Do you have a idea what brand will work on the Axpert inverter?

What would be the best batteries for me to buy then? I have a Axpert 24v inverter ( don't know if the inverter/charger makes a difference in battery choice)

it is a 24V battery bank the inverter is Axpert 3Kva-KS - 2400W 24V Pure Sine Wave Inverter. It says in the specs that it is MPPT charge controller. what would the maximum pannel wattage be that i can put on the system

would they still give you the 50% discharge like deep cycle batteries? so the 105ah should get me 52.5ah before they are completely discharged?

Good afternoon I see on the forum people are negative about silver calcium batteries. I am new to power storage so just some advice. what is wrong with them? I am looking at Bosch silver calcium because of the price. R1650 vs R3000 for gel. what would be the disadvantages of them?

Good afternoon I am a newbie with solar, i have a farmhouse with no Eskom power and have now ventured into installing my own solar system. So what i have currently 4XBosch Silver Calcium batteries 3000va Axpert inverter 2X255watt solar panels 7kw generator for backup Now for my problem, i installed the two pannels on my roof but with the fixed angle and some trees in front of the pannels some time of the day i am not getting enough power out of the panels. the specs of the inverter says that the max watts of panels that i can connect is 500watt. will it damage the inverter if i connect a total of 1000watts of pannels to the system? i will keep the 70volts but at peak the amperage will be more than wat the system spec. i am not looking to get more than the 500 watts, i just want to get 500 watts for a longer time of the day
