  1. Hi we had the same poor experience with Ricardo & Co from rvsolarsolutions. Batteries not earthed and many more compliance issues. All in all shoddy work. Now RV is out of business and they carry on under a new company. Irritating.
  2. Thank you both, that is very helpful. Will talk to the installer again.
  3. Good day all, We have a 5kw solar system with a sunsynk hybrid inverter and 2 batteries. We had another installer out to check the system and he gave us a list of issues with the current installation (despite the fact that we got a CoC from the installer...). I know that SSEG rules in CoCT have changed from 1 October but we applied prior to this so the old rules should apply. Here some of the points: 1) Separate AC & DC cabling in separate trunking 2) Install Earth-Neutral bonding contactor 3) Correct solar earthing & install earth rod 4) Replace fuse disconnector with correct size 5) Earth Batteries 6) Install AC surge protector. I try now to understand whether the points mentioned are indeed a requirement even under the old rules or whether these are new requirements that would not apply (this is at least what the installer claims). Irrespective of the rules I would also like to understand is what is a must have from a security point of view. Any advice is highly appreciated.
  4. Good morning all, the installer came, replaced the CT, yet the problem still carries on. Sunsynk wrote the following: "The Sunsynk inverter measures only the Active Power (kw) and not the Apparent Power (kVa) that is measured by the meter, its this value that you are billed against by the council. This will account for the difference you will see". Any views on this? I doubt our old prepaid Meter measures apparent power? Thank you
  5. So, the geyser (3kw element) is nonessential load (stove is running on gas anyway). The geyser is charged during the day via geyserwise, according to the app is uses solar and tops up by the batteries (up to 50%, the rest is reserved for load shedding), if necessary. The installer checked the ct and claims its fine but I am afraid there might be the issue. Sorry for the piecemeal information.
  6. Thank you for the response. I will figure out and post the information ASAP.
  7. Good day all, We have a 5kw sunsynk inverter with 5kw panels and 2 batteries. According to the sunsynk app we produce more than we use with minimal import of around 0.4kwh per day. The prepaid meter nonetheless shows per day a grid usage of about 10kwh - the installer did a firmware update but this didn't help. Any idea what could be wrong? Thank you.
  8. Thank you all for your feedback. Seems to be tricky to find a reliable installer while everyone is flooded with requests for solar installations. We will nevertheless try our luck with RVsolarsolutions and will share our experiences in a couple of weeks.
  9. Good morning @AndrewJdc @LongField we are also considering to go with rvsolarsolutions for a solar installation. Can you recommend them? Thank you Michael
  10. Good morning all, we are planning to install a 5kw solar system (5kw sunsynk hybrid inverter, 2 x 5.32 kwh sunsynk batteries, 10 x 460w solar panels) in Hout Bay and are looking for an experienced installer (ideally sunsynk approved). Installation should take place first or second week of May. We are grateful for any recommendation from the community. Thank you Michael
