Upgrade 60A to 80A in CoCT
Thank you, I will mention this to the electrician. For now I first have to rewire my house as I have a leak somewhere and can't install an earth leakage, which is a blocker for installing Solar. This is what the electrician advised. The house is 70 years old...

Upgrade 60A to 80A in CoCT
Thank you for the hint, I did not know about it. I'm considering getting solar soon. Having said that, CoCT will not approve inverters larger than 13.8kw on a 60amp connection, but will approve up to 18.8kw inverters on a 80amp connection. I thought I could use the apartments load as motivation to upgrade my connection to 80amp, as I really want a 16kw inverter in the long run. Cheers.

Upgrade 60A to 80A in CoCT
Hi OP, did you get any more details on this? I'm in Cape Town too. I'm looking to do the same as my main switch trips due to ovens being used in the 2 apartments. What are the costs involved and does it increase the monthly charges? Thanks.

Thank you. Yes I found that too, so I'm too hesitant to continue. I'll look up TechSun Solar. Cheers!

Did you end up using them and if so how was your experience? They have good prices and it includes installation. I'm based in CPT, they are in JHB but said they have suppliers in CPT too from where I would be able to get the stock. The question is, is it legit? On LinkedIn the company has only 1 employee, the CEO.

16kw inverter installs in Cape Town
Are single 16kw hybrid inverter installs still approved by COCT? I read that all post Oct 2023 installations must be grid tied, and that since most homes have a 60A connection the maximum power the homes are designed for is 230v * 60A = 13.8kw, and therefor the COCT will not approve any inverters able to supply more than 13.8kw. Is this true, or is there any other reason regatory why I should not invest in a single 16kw inverter? Also how does the COCT control 2x 8kw inverter installs, won't that be non-compliant too? Many people have this setup. Also the 16kw Deye and Sunsynk are both on the city's approved list without any additional comment, and the list was updated after Oct as can be seen by other brand's approval dates. https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms, notices, tariffs and lists/Approved Photovoltaic (PV) Inverter List.pdf Sorry for layman's terms, I'm no expert. Thanks
