    Think of it this way. you plug in a lamp and its rated at 240v. Just because the mains can supply 80amps doesn't mean the lamp with explode. It just takes what it wants to light up. Your inverter is just the same it takes what it wants. The voltage is the killer. Stay within the stated limit or your inverter will trip out.
