After struggling with the different small pieces I decided to get a tipple woven carbon fiber for the back pieces. The next was to cut a new template. The template is a fabric that does not stretch in any direction. Now the packing of the different meterials: Layer 1 Uni Directional CF Layer 2 Triple Woven CF Then all the rest: First peel ply Then the "mat" to distribute the resin Followed by the Tube for evenly spreading the resin Then the pipe connector
  2. I did a few more calculations after the City of Ape Town explained and justify the exceptional high cost of electricity in Cape Town. According to the explanation the City work on "averages (my words)" and not "hourly billing as Eskom does". Therefore the way they calculating how they buy electricity from the home owner (if you wish). The following screen is calculations are at cost (Eskom tariff). Once I apply the full "formula" (if you wish) the values will be slightly different but the following screen shot will give an overview of how expensive their calculations are.

Hi Jason, I have tried to upload a screenshot of 230Kb and even on a new topic it fails.

    Getting a -200 error

Round Nr2. Did some more checks on best practice and got rid of small cuts. Replace the small cut carbon fiber with a triple woven carbon fiber material. Made a new "template" from fabric that does not give way in any direction. Then started the layering processes. sORRY i CAN NO LONGER UPLOAD PICTURES TO SHOW

Run a test and now all is working well with as everything is nice and stable and less noise. An easy -80kPa with that small 12V motor. Now for test Nr 2.

First run was a disaster. Everything went everywhere. So I built the vacuum pod and motor to an all in one.

Did some shopping today. Got all the goodies to make the first part: For those who are a newbie to carbon fiber like me: The roll on the right white and pink is "peel off ply". The peel off ply is used to give a smooth finish on the no mold side or the back end of the part. The blue section is like a mesh that distributes the resin The roll on the left is the bag that will form the vacuum around the mold. In my case it will be cut in 1/2 and laid over the first section. The spiral to feed the resin to all parts and then the seal of tape. Blue pipe is between the "mold" and the container that holds the mixed resin. That will follow next

Thanks hope to have it soon. its almost like a job keeps me busy.

R144 incl Bottom is vertical top is horizontal layer. That stops flexibility in both direction.. What is nice is the off cut pieces is used for additional strengthening.
  11. DDD replied to DDD's topic in Wind Power
The carbon fiber I am using is plain weave 400g/m². I will use two layers in the linear direction and then two layers vertical to this fiber direction for strength. The strength of this cloth is in one direction and therefore I am having 4 layers 3 vertically to the direction of the standard cloth

Now starting with the preparation of the carbon fiber. I have been told that the more accurate the raw material fits the mold the better the final result. So here we go. After spending a few hours to ensure that the template is exact size this is a cutout section of the template on the "mold" prop. The actual blade color is blue can be seen through the cloth,

    Will do.

And the preparing to cut the first carbon fiber section.

No explosions this time and an easy =70 kPa.
  16. DDD replied to DDD's topic in Wind Power
New vacuum chamber and gas traps works very well. I have pushed the limits on this unit and it easily drops to -70 kPa. Followed a video and created the seal with silicon rubber. The Lid" from the top side:

The inlet out let and vacuum meter with valve control to keep the jar under a negative pressure.

After an absence for a few weeks back at it again. I redid the unit that imploded and this is the new vacuum tank. Monday I will start with the manufacturing of the blades.
  19. DDD replied to DDD's topic in Wind Power
The problem with the design of the blades is when they get damaged. My intention is also to use the small blades as a trial run for a 5M unit. Also doing the blades is a lot cheaper than buying them.
  20. Switches mounted in the bookshelf:
  21. The most basic version can even be without the control relays. This version charges the batteries give me +/- 6 hours standby for 5 Lewd down lighters. The 220V switch over switches over as soon as there is no 220V. Nothing fancy but works like a dream. The control relays has 2 purposes. The on/off switches is made to look like a book in a bookshelf so I do not want any thick cables. The control cct with central control and wireless communications will follow soon. This version is an illustration of a Eskom light back up system for less than R900.
  22. Interesting the concept now starting to take shape in SA means that soon I will be allowed to sell to my neighbor and don't have to sell to COCT or buy from my neighbor. Thus I can sell my excess @ let say R 1.20 and do not have to sell to a munic or Esdom. Also means I will be able to buy from any generation connected to the grid. Pretty much how USA & UK ... works. Ever wonder why Esdom created a third leg called distribution or networking. For this very reason.
  23. Now that the lights all wired etc I am installing my system: Radio transceiver: Microwave Human detection. This device detects human activity and will send the detection to the cpu The CPU board: The cpu is synced to a master that is a very basic controller and web interface. All my backup units has this device and monitors the Batt Voltage. When it get to low the CPU switched the lights off or over to normal power. The CPU's are synchronized and will only start charging during the day or any time it is programmable. Thus during the day the batteries get charged and at night when there is movement the lights go on. At night the CPU will switch the back up lights on when there is no mains. It will also detect the signal from the microwave unit and then switch the lights on and off depending on the on time which is programmable the light will stay x minutes on after the person left the room. It will use VBatt until the V is low and then switches back to Eskom. The batt are selected to last +/- 10 hours. All Batt voltages are send the the master unit and from there all Bat units are monitored. I use a bigger 24V power supply and batteries for the TV. it also has a 24V - 220V for the LED tv ... The comms device cost is R90 the Micro wave detection is R45 Thus a smart systems cost is +/- R 1200 When built I will add more photo's with the relays and wiring diagram.

Yes it was empty. You are right but I wanted to test the little pump. Its a small 40Watt 12V unit and did not expect it to do this. Its not only to remove the bubbles but spread the resin. My heart still beating fast. Will use the same pot and put a 3mm thick plastic pipe inside as I am sure I will forget it when doing the blades. I loose concentration very easy. But now that I know I will take care and hopefully learn from this till the next time. Maybe I can get it swapped out under warranty. 😂😂💣

That was not a good idea. Shoe. All was working so well and then we past -60 and 3 times the volume of a thunder flash. Shoe. Still waiting for my heart to return from my ears.
