Wood not a goo idea so we replaced it with a steel pillar. The moment there is tension to iron pull the wire the spool twists and the wood grips. So of to steel we go.

Difficult to say right now. The longer and bigger blades will need less wind and then its about the max power from the wind. Mine I am designing because we have good winds many days. Cape Town known as one of the best wind surf places in the world. Judging by the wind surfers and kites I recon there will be plenty. Therefore it will push the Kwhr when the sun is weaker or down. For other areas I recon less Kw. I have not as yet studied the wind maps of SA. If you consider the trees in Cpt is affected by the wind I recon it will be a close tossup between solar and wind. For that I pushing to get 6 - 7Kwh from my unit. Will start testing coils and power from tomorrow on. That will explain the feasibility of it. As for now I have no formula's or information I can provide as accurate information. In Cape Town I am sure it will be a very good addition.

The boss busy with his inspection. Will have to wait for the outcome: And here we go ready for the final tests but have to wait for the motor to move the cable feed left and right

We have plenty wind summer and winter between NE & SE will make plenty of KWhrs

The push to final product. Software all working and now the cradle is smooth.

Achmat, What I am desperatly "trying" to do is to get a nice one going for all of us. I am also trying to make it so that you can feed "2 or 3" inverters so that a person only rely on a stupid micro processor. So I am making it in a isolated form that we can split the power into two or 1 or 4 directions so we do not have earth loops, Then with a few different pieces of software we should be able to switch between the different devices. I will also make it so that one can start with a small device and then upscale. It seems that the most expensive part is the copper thus far. Hopefully I can replace the "solar" panels with it. That is my idea. The last thing I want is that people must then buy this and that and and and then it is to complicated and expensive. It must be availble for those who want to build and save like me and then the people who wants to buy it complete. Its quite a bit of work for one and by golly I am terrible with my hands 12 thumbs but getting there. For that the coils machine and for that imy test set so I can test the coil and make sure it complies with the persons system tralalalalalalaaaa

Its a pleasure hopefully more will start using and safe $. That's the ultimate goal. But for a motor the winder is done. We now have an automated system for those who wants coils in the future without struggling. Now the molds and then the blades from carbon fiber. Then the smart controller. Hopefully end of the month we are in the position to assemble and start with first unit Regards
  9. I just have one very bad part of me and I talk better to computers than humans. But I will sit and draw my system on a sketch one day. Rebel I am fir sure. The council every two/three weeks came to inspect my house for what I was doing but in the end they got tired. 😇 I personally believe in time to come we all will only have low voltage DC homes with a few sockets AC. That is if we have leaders and not followers which seem to be so common(algemeen).
  10. A combination. I mentioned somewhere I have 5 DB's in my house. The average electricians night mare. Therefore in Cpt I have one guy that I make use of. He now trusts me as I helped many people moving to solar. My COC's normally take 10 minute with them as they fully understand what I am doing and starting to convince others to follow suit.

And the main motor also replaced. They now both run in synch and all timed on the pickup monitoring the count. Now that the software is done motors synchronized will get some one to do a decent frame for me as I am totally useless with that. One fully automated coil winder. Some features are: Variable tension to set the winding tightness for a solid coil. System calculates the travel per thickness of the copper thickness of the coil and windings. Auto stop on the windings Left right calculation done in micro Left Right speed gets automatically synced with the spool.
  12. DO you mind to send me your pdf of your plan then I can fully assist you. I when the architect did my house I insisted on a different approach with DB's etc. No electrical firm wanted to do it. So I designed it installed it and had it approved. Today I do not use fancy batteries and I save thousands. Once I have it I will fully developed it for you. It is difficult to discuss a length of wire. Also I am not good talking to humans better to computers so I would advice you and then you are welcome to put it on the board and all can have a ball. I can assure you with a little extra wiring you will save more on batteries and I will discuss it and explain it to you in full. My house have 5 DB's and two external ones. Therefore my solar system done not have all the boxes and channels and and and you see on foto's

My new cradle to feed the wire. I adapted the software and the coil manufacturing process will be fully automated. I am to lazy to watch the coils been made. Coil winder made to handle two coils and there is the little menu for the selection and options
  14. If you do it all on a "new" house why do you still use old fashioned methods of electricity in the house? When I did my house some years ago I did it by designing the electricity lay out different and by doing that I got away with saving on equipment that is costly. Just think not the old way of wiring. It might cost a few R more on wiring but will safe plenty on expensive equipment. Unless you want to brag with equipment that cost a fortune and expensive in the long as well as short run.

A friend made the alternator test rig. This rig is required to test the braking system and by pass of MPPT. He has still a few minor adjustments to do. This will allow us to verify the software before taking system alive:

There is the magnet and pickup Nou it is automated. Insert the number of turns and it will stop when that amount is reached Little video swoing the counting For those not so into electronics. The magnet is 3mm x 3mm glod plated and is often swollowed by humans thne it can be followed through the body. Monday I will start testing the coil and voltage generated by the magnets. Magnets are 70mm x 50mm x 20mm. A test rig will be build and then we can view the wave forms and measure the current with instrumentation to verify my maths

Got the magnet and pickup today: Red LED shows the detection

Nicely painted ready to make the mold:
  19. Does this implies there must be two earth leakage devices: 1 for normal and one for esential?
  20. Or other installers must sort the prev guys mess. That is often the issue when a system was not properly put together by the seller. Been to a installation the person spend over R200K and still was not off the grid. Then bought another R5XK batteries. Jup there is a lot of junk going on out there because majority don't know what they are doing.

This line should read: If I can manage this the blades will be easy to replicate and each person can make their own blades, then a rotor and alternator to a standard form to eliminate the use of my controller. Then RPM can be managed by off setting the tail. Once my stuff working properly it will be available for those who want to use it.

The National law allows for wind turbines: 48 Use of the property The following use restrictions apply to property in this zoning: (a) Primary uses are institution, hospital, place of instruction, place of worship, place of assembly, rooftop base telecommunication station, filming and open space. (b) Consent uses are boarding house, conference facility, cemetery, crematorium, funeral parlour, freestanding base telecommunication station, wind turbine infrastructure, veterinary practice and urban agriculture. [Item. 48 substituted by s. 39 of City of Cape Town: Municipal Planning Amendment Once it is national a local law can not over rule it (Constitution) and if it is a restriction it must be registered on your title deed or traceable via title deed else you have the right with out asking the council.. I must check this but I am pretty sure that a wind generator mounting point can not be higher than 3 M from where it is mounted. Mounting not total height

I saved to early sorry: Rotate: Magnets will rotate the I need no slip rings Voltage: Not 3 phase but something I plan to manipulate with software. So the voltage I am not sure what its going to be as I want to use it for a break system as well. Once I get it working I will discuss that a bit more. I am a little nervous to the idea but I recon after understanding the flux system I recon I can manage it with a bit of software cheat to generate and break. WindPower: The micro I am using does 2.5M steps per second so that is the least of my worries as the sample rate will be in .1milli second. I am doing my best not to use an MPPT. BuckBoost: If my design works right no buck or boost converters ElectroMechanical : Nope Furl: The first model I will have a motor controlling the angle of the blades under micro processor control's. Once my software working properly then I will dump the feathering as I believe software will control it properly Gap: 21mm Bearings: NTC they are very important so will refrain from Chinese stuff. I had some failures with Chinese stuff on my solar tracker. Losses: The only losses will be in the inverter and the effectiveness of the blades. Follow: Yes it will follow the wind with direction monitor and RPM monitor plus Kw so I can display it live on a web site Pulleys: No pulleys or gears OverRpm: Prevention via software loop Blades: Blades are very tricky so I bought a design from a firm that designs blades RPM/Kwr: If my calculations are correct +/- 420 Rpm Cable: 6 mm 3 Blades: The blades neck will be machined from aluminum If I can I would like to step it up to 5 blades. Time will tell. Blades Bal: A friend made the blade for me from supa wood. Its been sealed and painted will get it tomorrow. The painting was done to prevent stickiness as much as possible. I will now make a mold for carbon fiber. I am speculating but a single blade will weigh +/- 600G as the carbon is +/- 300G. The method used with the mold and machined al will have a very uniformed weight The crucial factors will be the start of the blade from the center shaft, then the length and then the weight of the carbon and fusion epoxy. What I been told the weight will be very close as its from a mold made and design for carbon-fiber. The idea with this is to weigh the metal make sure each part has the exact same weight and then the carbon before molding it together. Then the delta should be easy to manage. The inside on the blade instead of wood will be solid aluminum and that will add a bit of weight but still much lighter than the fiberglass or wood blades. The carbon fiber will have an extra 1mm stainless multi core cable that will be tied to the main connection. Like a F1 car wheels. If I can manage this then it will be easy to replicate for any person who would be interested to make use of it. The only prob the system will not be available without the controller as per my version else any one can make up their own stater. Its simple the software will manage the device and send info back to my data base for analyses. The blades how ever will be available and so the mold. The intention is not to make money but so we all can have nice stuff at avoidable prices and ... My device use 23Kg of copper so you can understand its a little heavy but then in strong winds which we get very often I hope to push 6 and if I am very lucky 7Kw. 7 is a dream!!!! 6 not so far fetched.
