@Rautenk thing is, this should be a no-brainer. You shouldn't have to sit down with Excel and work out at which point you will essentially break even given their rules, the size of your array / inverter / main breaker or the amount of electricity you use. If CoCT is serious about being green you wouldn't have to. Thing is, CoCT has other considerations, which they currently consider more important it would appear, except at Wind / Solar farm level. And there-in lies the rub. @The Terrible Triplett 4) should be the removal of the "you can't feed back more than you use annually" rule.

Also, if you have a leak on your side of the meter, you can get a rebate on the charge per kilolitre given water restrictions but I am not sure how all that works, so it is something you want to look into...

CoCT is a nightmare to deal with on water, and yes, you have to go into the offices eventually and poke people to do their job. I went through this at the end of 2017. In my case the leak (if you have one) was clearly visible as it ran out into the street, but I didn't see it until R4600 of water had escaped down the drain the morning after it had sprung. This happened around New Year, and though CoCT eventually came and fixed it as the problem was their side (about five days after being reported to them and me being with no water) their tune was to pay the money until the dispute was resolved. I refused on principal (or is that principle), but had to go into the offices to declare I didn't have the money to cover the cost of the water. I kid you not, the agreement I had to sign was a quarter of an inch thick with supporting three month bank statements required nogal. Then I had to go into the offices for a further five months to poke people to sort out the dispute. So, I feel your pain. Now I read my meter every month and note it on my bill from CoCT, which also includes their reading. So you might want to check your meter and what CoCT has measured on your bill.

Yup, I think that is pretty much it. The old board had old rails anyway so it was difficult to put in geyser timers and whatnot.

Thanks, yes, I thought it reasonable given everything, was just miffed I needed to get a new CoC for the house generally as per installer's requirements... Oh well, we live and learn...

Thanks both, For the 8.5K they replaced the old DB board (which I have to admit was very old and sad) all with Hager switches / breakers etc. They also checked / replaced other bits and pieces and I got the final paperwork this afternoon. Thanks for the PM, I cannot afford that at the moment, so am just going to stick with the Solis Mini 3kw and look into other options down the line. Yes, I have seen them, thanks. Yes am on 60A breaker. Maybe the Axpert will eventually make it's way onto the list and I can combine that with above with an additional DB board or something. As I say, that is going to have to wait. Interesting, thanks, I will make a bit of a noise about this down the line with the new installer. Great. The papers aren't in yet as the installer insisted on the new CoC to accompany the application along with theirs for the solar stuff. I have sent them a copy, they must now proceed with the application. Hopefully it is not too late. I have been speaking to the installer since December and have had to nudge just to get this far, so not overly happy.. Responses very much appreciated. Phaedrus

Hi All, Been reading your forum for quite a while but this is my first post. I have an existing installation which I had to turn off about three years back as my Fronius IG Plus 50V is not on the NRS list and would also not satisfy CoCT's 60 AMP breaker requirement anyway, so that has to come out. I have a few questions if you could oblige. PV installer won't proceed without a house CoC that is more than five years old. I bought in 2002, so my house CoC is way past that. Besides the solar install nothing major has been done to the house electricity wise. 1) I have done the CoC in order to proceed (R8.5K cost), but was wondering if this house CoC greater than 5 years is actually a requirement for CoCT PV Grid Tied application? 2) I see the Solis hybrids "might" now be available locally given a post on this forum, but can't find anything for sale online at the 3KW (60 amp breaker) level. Does anyone know of anyone selling these and if so where? 3) Does anyone know if the hybrid issue has been sorted with CoCT regarding the "impossible switch" issue discussed on this forum, or are all hybrids on the NRS list essentially still impossible given the regulations and the city's attitude as they stand? 4) For the short term (to make the CoCT deadline at the end of next month) I am going to go with the Solis Mini 4G 3.0kW as it is literally all I can afford at the moment given the cost of the CoC and the new installer's charges for their CoC on top of the house CoC. Has anyone got one of these Solis Minis, and are they happy with it? 5) Does the Solis non feedback mechanism satisfy CoCT's grid tied application requirements? 6) Last question. Do the Solis Hybrid inverters use the same mechanism for not feeding back to the grid as the non-hybrids? Or is a meter / sensor necessary, or is that all part of the hybrid inverter itself?
