Wiring confusion
Hi Gnome, in your last reply you stated, " I personally used 25 amp breaker going to the inverter (with4mm cable) and 20 amp coming from the breaker (with EL integrated)." Should it not be 20 amp AC out from inverter?

My apologies, Coulomb also provided sound advice

Wiring confusion
Thanks, I will replace the circuit breaker. I have a single pole circuit breaker which I will replace with your 25 amp recommendation. For clarity I did not ask for stove wire as I am not busy with a stove but builders people did not know what the SA translation of 8 gauge was as recommended in the manual was but thanks to Riaanh and The Bulldog I was helped.

Wiring confusion
Hi Gnome, first of all thank you for the advice. I have since replaced the 6 with 4mm AC input with a 50A breaker. Keep in mind I am not technically experienced. With this in mind will this cause a problem as I would not want to again rewire with 6mm, by the way is 6mm also used to wire a stove connection? I am asking this because this is what Builders gave me when I asked for 8 gauge.

Anyone like to look over my proposed SSEG application and diagram?
This is the email I referred to in my previous email Good day Mr.A Our engineer have spoken to the engineering department at City of Cape town and a inverter only needs to be registered if it will be grid tied. Grid tied means that the inverter will feed excess electricity generated into the municipal grid. With your inverter, this is not the case as the inverter is not capable of doing this. The 5kVA Mecer inverter can only draw electricity from the municipal grid. The engineering department has advised that you complete an application just to inform them that you have an off grid system. Wiring confusion
Thanks for the advice but will it cause any harm to the inverter should I use 4mm, which thicker than the 6 I replaced. Dont tell me I will have to do this all over again with 6 mm🤔

The Bulldog, thank you once again for this comprehensive explanation. Not being technically inclined, it sounds as if the CoCT merely confuses things. I just bought the Mecer 5KV last week at Gogreen in Wellington unaware of this by law. I contacted the company today after reading all this info and advice on Power Forum informing them of the by law. They had a diffetent understanding as I wanted to return the unit. I sent them an email yesterday on the matter. They phoned me today stating they had phoned the CoCT after receiving my email. According to the company, the CoCT did not have a problem with the inverter as long it was not connected to the grid. I however need to make application to register the battery system. I requested they send me an email in this regard

Hi Coulomb, thank you for your advice. I subsequently bought 6 and 4mm cable and will replace the 6 AC in with the 4mm. Regards

Anyone like to look over my proposed SSEG application and diagram?
Hi, The Bulldog, I noted your closing ammendment remark (and for that matter any battery based inverter that is otherwise NRS-097 compliant). Will this apply to the formerly unauthorised Axpert/Mecer 5 KV as well or does it remain unauthorised?

Wiring confusion
Hi All, I recently bought a Mecer 5KV inverter. It states I must use 8 gauge wire for AC IN/OUT. Went to Builders they did know what I was talking about. They gave me stove installation wire. Will this work? Does anyone have gauge conversion to mm used in SA please?

No power on Mecer kv5 inverter
Hi Chris, thanks so much. Here I thought I bought a dud.

No power on Mecer kv5 inverter
Hi all, I am new so please forgive the ignorance where applicable 😂 After installing the inverter, switched power on....nothing no light no sound nothing. Must mention no battery nor PV connected only eskom at AC IN. Is this normal as I did not want to use until I have the rest but just wanted to see if it would turn on. Please advise.

Inverter wiring problem
Hi guys, I purchased a Mecer kv5 inverter hot wired with stove thickness cable to a plug that is directly connected to the DB board so has no other load(I think its a 10 gauge) I have no battery nor PV as source only Eskom but the unit does not power up. What can it be? Regards Mr A
