  1. Hi guys! I have an Axpert 5KVA unit and it just doesn't want to cold boot. No matter if the battery is fully charged or not. No mattwr if load is present ot not. I Cant get it to start up if the voltage from eskom isn't present first. I get this screen for a few seconds and it dies. Once mains is restored it works perfectly. I know my fans are wrong could that be an issue? I couldn't find 80mm PWM fans at Mantech. So I replaced the dead one with a standard non PWM fan. I know they limit the outputbut they shouldn't just not turn on at all?
  2. I did NOT see that coming. I always thought that even though there is a BMS the charge voltage still needs to be correct. This changes everything. 🤔 I wanted to ask about it being bad for the batteries to be in a constant state of OVP but knowing what I know about mosfets I know that's not relevant.
  3. So... The lower voltage one just stops charging and then comes back when the voltage drops enough?
  4. Yeah. This particular pack came in 15 cell I believe (No 16 cell, sorry about that.) And it's a 2.56kWh pack at 1C of discharge(50A). I know it's too small but given my load rarely exceeds 1kW I think I'll be fine for now. Thanks for your replies guys! I really appreciate your help! I know I should upgrade in the future and I fully intend to.
  5. Hey guys! I recently fell into a deal for a 16Cel LiFePo4 battery and an inverter. However the battery is a bit small for the inverter (2.5kW for a 5kW Inverter) and I'd like to upgrade at some point. The manufacturer of this battery doesn't make the 16 cel version anymore and only make a 17 cell version. And those in parralel is not an option. However other people do sell 16 cell LiFePo4 batteries. And I'm thinking of getting one of those (In the future) Now electrically it won't matter, but the BMS standards I'm fuzzy on. How do the communication protocol differ between battery manufacturers? Has anyone here had experience with a multi-vendor battery pack?

  7. Hey guys. I'm just curious if you guys have ever taken a peak inside the more beefy inverters? Do they still use IGBTs? Do some of them start using more exotic silicon? What's the cutoff?

    On mine the relay didn't engaged, when I measured the output it would read 220V and thr inverter reported no problem but the second a load was present it dropped to zero. So it turned out I was getting capacitive coupling throught the relay and thays why ot still measured an output voltage. It could be anything that causes a relay to fail. Overvoltage. Some software bug that engages it over and over. They are mechanical parts and have a finite lifetime

    My Axpert had a similar problem (though not the voltage thats a weird one...) The problem there was a borked relay. Though if it was installed a week ago it should still be under warranty shouldn't it?
  11. I'm not using the inverter's current readings. They are all over the place. I have a dedicated chip I'll be using.
  12. Working on a new board that integrates the Axpert RS232 interface with a coulomb counter. Ordering proto PCB this week!

  14. It's not MPPT. It doesn't say MPPT on the side. And from what I know about MPPT this is a PWM.
  15. Is there a way I can tell the difference? The sticker on the side says MPPT though it has no branding and I got it broken and fixed it.

  17. Yeah the optimal angle should be around 34is but I'm not spending a hunk of cash on a house im not intending to stay in for more than a few more months. Yeah I thought so. I just wanted to be sure. My long cable runs were my primary problem. I overestimated them because I don't plan on staying here for long but they were also dropping like 50W. I have a third panel. I just don't have the cash for the brackets and stuff right now.

  19. Hey guys! A while ago I installed some silar panels - 2x 160W Cinco panels. Now the angle of theae panels are close to horizontal as I'm not about to shell out thousands of rands to kit out my crazy landladys garage roof as it was the only place facing north and isn't covered by a tree... They seem to be working just fine. But I can't help feeling I'm missing out on over 40% of my power output. I'm getting at peak just under 180W output from the pair. (around 14A) I'm not sure which of the parameter on the datasheet to look at. The PTC are 160W. The current is around 9A(8.7something) The peak voltage is 18, though my MPPT controller keeps it at around 13.4, not sure if that may be it. (It's the one built into my axpert) I'm a complete novice when it comes to solar. Am I right to think something is wrong?
  20. I gotta open her up to remove the battery charge transformer I'll do that. I saw you recently reccomended the same to my friend for his 5K. How common is this?
  21. Whoah. Okay... It was under load, yes. And as I said in the original post, I measured both sides. Right at the leads it measured within .05V of at the battery terminals.

  23. Hey! What I initially thought was only a calibration issue, (That I asked about it in a previous post) I now notice is a non linear reading issue. When my multimeter reads 12.4V on my new battery, my axpert is already busy flashing it's warning light, reading 11.9V on the display. However it's reading the higher voltages correctly? Is this something I should worry about? I circumvented this by setting the cutoff very low, however I don't know if it's going to charge it correctly. I checked the voltage at the terminals and not at the battery, so it's not my cables.

But that's a custom part and I can't get it from Digikey/similar. I'm sure someone around here has a dead one in a closet that their wife has been pestering them to get rid of for weeks now.
