  1. As luck would have it, as it often does, 2 days before a trip my inverter went pop. I knew that I would not have time for repair and needed to do something quickly. A quick shop around and I found an SPF 6000 ES Plus at a very good price. The supplier said he could get it to me in one day. Now this unit has 2 x mppt and my current one only had 0ne. Another quick call around and a local installer said he could help in the one day that I had left. Duly the unit arrived and the next day the installers came. They are Growatt installers with an installer code. Have to admit they made a good job. Also have to admit that I am quite impressed with this unit. It is an off grid and as I am on pre paid now, suits me just fine. I looked at the Growatt 5000 series when I first installed and this unit is definitely a step up. 6kw with a max of 8 kw solar input. 2 x mppt, 500 vdc with 120 to 450 operating range. 100 amp solar charge and 80 AC. I have attached the data sheet. So far so good, this unit is by far outperforming my existing unit and with the web and app supplies some decent info on production and usage. if you are thinking of an upgrade, could be worth looking into. 2. Mine is NMC and is exactly the same battery as the original. I know I am going to have to get both to the same Voltage before I connect, but I have plan for that. It is the dip switches that concern me.
  3. OK, does this help My DB board goes to the changeover switch, this then goes to an AVP, AC in and AC out This then goes to a mini DB with breakers AC in and AC out this then goes to the inverter Would the AC in line be a direct connection ?
  4. Thanks I am in Alberton and my inverter does not have a feed back option. Like yesterday though, no nice knock on the door for my neighbors, they just rocked up and started pulling meters out of the box.
  5. Oops my bad, meant 120 amp My system is 5.5 kw inverter 12 440 w panels currently 1 x 48 v 120 amp battery
  6. There is always some curve ball in life that upsets the plans. Yesterday there is commotion in the street as the pre paid meter squad is ripping out meters out of the street box. My neighbor who has the same system as me is one of the victims. The contractor handed him a pre paid meter and said plug this in, it should work. Issue no 1 Non of his plugs would work to power this thing. The contractor is saying that he needs a direct to Eksdom plug. Like me his system is all on essential there is no split DB. How do we fix this ? Issue no 2 I have ordered a 2nd 120 amp battery. Please let me know if this is right. Switch everything off Connect red to red Connect black to black Connect communication cable In my manual for the battery it states for ADS, set dip switches 0 off, off, off, off 1 On, off, off, off Turn on inverter Turn on batteries Turn on PV Turn on AC Does this sound right to you.? Thanks in advance.

5.5 kw inverter. I have been trying to find out what a 1.1 kw pump will pull on start up but no joy I am just concerned that it does not hurt the inverter. Yes I have grid I Installed Feb 2023 and this is the first time this has happened in 15 months and the pool pump runs daily.

Hi Guys This morning, we hear a beep when the pool kicked on via the timer. I go to look at the inverter and see nothing wrong. We decided to try and repeat the event, so I watched as Swambo turned off the pool and then turned on again. For a second only, I saw Fault 07 flash on the screen and then all back to normal again. This is something new and has not happened before. Fault 07 in my manual states overload by 110 % Could my capacitor on the pool pump be seeing it's last ? 8 years old What could be the cause of this new problem ?
  10. Thanks @Sc00bs Appreciate the comments
  11. Hi, I need to replace my EV tube solar geyser o my roof. So far Apollo which is a Chinese import and SA Geyser seem to be the ones quoted for most. Has any one installed these units and can comment please. Thanks
  12. Just an update, a pro 5 data logger, linked to the smartess app for android and the dessmonitor web app works very well.
  13. Update: I bought a Pro 5 data logger and with a little help I have managed to get it all connected for the app Smartess and the web dessmonitor. So far so good, I can pull much more info than just from the panels on the inverter and battery.
  14. Hi Ron No expert here but my limited knowledge leads me to ask Is the Gennie modified sine wave or pure sine wave. Most inverters do not like "dirty" electricity. Does the Gennie have an AVR to regulate the voltage Do you intend to install a changeover switch on the AC in line ?
  15. I am no expert but felt sufficient enough to DIY a system. For this I chose the Solarwize 5.5kva inverter, the 120 amp Lithium battery and the 440 W panels. I installed in Feb 2023 and to date have had a very pleasant learning curve and am more than happy with the results. The inverter is a full hybrid that allows for AC, PV and battery and if I understand correctly it also allows blending other than just a straight bypass. The battery is not Lifepo, it is NMC and is very robust. Having 120 amps gives me enough to use the SBU setting early mornings when there is not enough PV. As soon as PV is enough the battery recharges quickly and even with a 3kw geyser, I rarely go below 50% DoD. The battery has a panel for monitoring SOC and overall and individual cell charge and the BMS works well for balancing. All the usual over/under V protections are there. It also has a SOL setting that allows for PV to power everything and will also recharge the battery with anything not used for the load. The panels are 2 strings of 5 into a combiner that gives 240 V and I have limited the amps to 30. Cost of this system for the three components, inverter , battery and panels was R65 000 and around 20K for the balance of the install, wiring, fuses, breaker boxes for AC/DC, changeover switch and automatic voltage control. There is a dongle available but I am struggling to get this to work on account of me being BBC (born before computers) Time will tell but for the cost I am more than happy with the end result and the daily functioning of the system. I am also about 2 thirds less on my Eskom bill than pre system. Does anyone else have Solarwize products and would like to share.
  16. OK, so I got this info, does it sound right and make sense Min V210 Max V 250 Timer 10 min Line = off Appreciate any comments
  17. https://www.fullcirclesolar.co.za/product/automatic-voltage-switch-avp40-micro-protection-for-inverters-vat-incl/ Hi all, I have the above device. Automatic voltage protection. The supplier I bought it from did the settings for me but I would like to know what they should be should I need to change them. Any one any idea's
  18. Morning all. I have a Solarwise 5.5 kva inverter coupled with the 120 amp Solawise battery. The cells are NMC. Last night my low battery alarm went off when the battery showed 48.6 V on the inverter. The low voltage cut off is at 46 V. The battery itself via the panel showed I still had over 60 amps available with cut off at 30 amps (25%) I cannot find a setting in my manual for the alarm setting. Would this have anything to do with the "back to utility setting" Thanks , appreciate any feedback.
  19. Just an update: Well it appears that these panels like to be cold. Yesterday it was cooler and we had a lot of cloud cover. Now I see 220 V registering on the inverter.
  20. Just an update on this. I opted for a 12v 20 amp 250 w power supply. Works very well and is it is in a well ventilated open space behind a false wall, there is no heat build up and it runs very cool. Handled the tar up and cool down period of the fridge with ease and now running constantly. Thanks for all the comments.
  21. Good morning guys Bear with me I am BBC but a quick study. I see that my Solarwise inverter has a comm port and the manual says WIFI and GPRS are available for IOS and Andriod. I followed the instructions which said to connect to a wifi router via the cable and then use an app to connect to the inverter. I can find no Solrwise/Solarwyze specific app and have tried a few generic ones but am too stupid to figure it all out. Is there any one willing to assist an old fart out through this minefield. I hope so, thanks in advance.
  22. Good morning everyone Please advise: I have a 12V only compressor fridge. Dometic 16L that I usually take on camping trips. I am wanting it to do duty in the house now and need to get advice on which switching power supply to use. The only info on a sticker on the fridge is 12/24 V DC 5 A / 2.5 A An online calc shows me that is 60 W .... is this correct So 220 V input, would 100 W power supply handle the start up of the compressor ? Would a power supply at 12 V 100W 8.5 A do the job ? Thank you
  23. Hi, not sure what you mean by not producing power. If for example I run my home office, which is around 400 W and then put on my 1.1Kw pool pump, I can see generation of around 1.5Kw coming from the panels. I can see this when load shedding is in effect. The inverter, if I am reading it right shows nothing being drawn from the battery. The most V I have seen is around 220V, the most amps I have seen is around 12 A. I have the system on solar priority, then utility, then battery. My battery is almost always full. Thanks for all the replies, it goes a long way to understanding the system. If we don't speak again today, have a great weekend. PS: regardless of whether I have a perfect system or not. It beats the hell out of 8 hours or more a day load shedding.
  24. Hi zsde I have just did as you said. Both strings are around 180V. They are not crossed and each string is producing independently. I cannot see or find a setting for max pv input. One step further , I opened the combiner box and checked across the breaker, this V matches what is coming from the strings. Am I right in saying that the combiner box parallels the V when it sends it to the inverter. Panels are North facing on a tile roof. Time is current, let's say 14:30
