August 13, 20224 yr Hello Guys! I have a Growatt SPF 5000 ES with 5 PVs 535w and 4 AGM VRLA Batteries connected en series. This Growatt never gives any notification or warning and everything running well. but watching it by self and by application from mobile (shine phone), discovered something strange if anyone has the same I don't know if it is an issue or not. Battery SOC runs all night 100% until 5.30 AM then SOC Drops to 25%, all night with Maximum consumption like 2.0 Amp or less, so I ran to the inverter, disconnected the PVs, 5 Seconds Inverter beep and Batteries go to 75%. This Happens on all days when Sun goes down too at the same time at 7:00 PM, SOC here drops to 75%, Tried again to disconnect PVs it goes again this time to 100%. are this is an option in the inverter software? why this Growatt Model doesn't show correct percentages like 100%, 93%, 88%, or 69% .... but it uses between 100%, 75%, and 25%? by the way, I have 2 batteries Mesure 12.~ and 2 batteries Mesure 11.~, I found something in a store that can balance these batteries name Battery Equalizer or Battery Balancer, so pro what do u think about what is happening here?
August 13, 20224 yr Hi that's normal when the bms is not connected. It's basically using best guess for SOC based on voltage. When the time comes to replace your batteries, replace them with lifepo4 on the compatible list and you will see how good your inverter is for It's price.
August 13, 20224 yr Unfortunately, the battery SOC only reflects 100% or quarters thereof. i.e. 75%,50%, 25% when using non Lithium settings. Even if your batteries are 100%, as soon as there is a load and depending on the load it will immediately drop to 75% or even 50%. These percentages are derived from the voltages and loads on Lead Acid chemistry pull the voltage down by quite a margin. Once you use Lithium batteries then the percentages are in 1% increments with much more accurate values. I had 4 AGM batteries with my initial installation and within the first week I discussed it with the supplier and replaced them with my Hubble. The supplier refunded the purchase price of the AGMs and I paid in the difference.

Not a single hiccup and not a single A/h lost. Tomorrow my battery will have done it's first 365 cycles and if the battery deterioration is linear, then mine is holding it's capacity pretty well. Their new product range now has the Revision 2 of this battery. Whether these will still be compatible in terms of being paralleled with the version I have is not clear at this stage. The price after one year was also R5000 more before this particular version is slowly being phased out. So much for the media bamboozlement that solar is getting cheaper. It's not.
