September 2, 20224 yr Can someone help and save me from wondering until I have enough time to make my own cable to test... The Sunsynk RS232 is powered to provide power to the data logger... I am wanting to work out what pins are used for power, their polarity and what voltage. I am trying to split the RS232 port to allow the data logger and Solar Assistant or ICM to work in conjunction with my Narada battery which uses the RS485. When trying to test with hardware and software based splitters, I realised the issued I was having was not the splitters but rather the lack of power. I am planning to inject power back into the cable for the data logger.
September 3, 20224 yr Author For anyone wanting to know in future, power is supplied on pins 6 & 9. I am not sure the voltage or polarity as I established the pins by taking the cover of the data logger.. For anyone wondering, splitting the RS232 and re-connecting the power works!!
September 3, 20224 yr If you are using one master device and multiple listing devices, a splitter can be used on a RS232 "bus". Normally RS232 is a point to point connection and not a multi-point connection like the RS485. Imagine the chaos with the data logger and SolarAssistant (Pi) both trying to TX, and one is pulling to -12V, while the other is pulling to +12V. 😲 With RS485, a device will only take the "bus" if its address is called.

My issue is with my battery being on RS485 in Mode 16 on the inverter, this changes the manner in which / protocols used on the inverter to match those of the battery. I have used a hardware splitter... It seems for now that it is handling this issue but failing that, I have 1 of 2 options... 1) cut the physical wire to the Pi for Tx so it is read only 2) change to a software based splitter and via the software, one can specify read only to a specific port. My only issue, is I dont know if the Pi will work with only ready only but I am going to wait and see if it is even needed
