October 27, 20178 yr Does the temperature of the 4.6 K GTI look correct? I have a medium sized fan drawing air from the top of it in my garage.I have seen the inverter hit 50 degrees. The manual states Ambient operating temperature range is -25 to 60 degrees.
October 27, 20178 yr 50 isn't even breaking a sweat. The way you work these things is you look at the junction to air values of the semiconductors, and then add in the heat sink values, and all sorts of things like that, and that generally gives you an overall temperature delta per unit of power. Then you add that on top of the ambient, and you want the total to be below 150 or some such value (where the devices self-destruct). So with an ambient range up to 60, this thing is clearly designed for increases of at least 40. If yours is at 50 (ambient included), that's cool... :-)
October 27, 20178 yr Author I thought seeing as though one cannot cool down solar panels or cells, one could cool off your geyser mppt and inverter to increase the efficiency of devices. It is sometimes very hot to touch especially the GTI. I have a very warm garage in summer(asbestos roof) so I have attempted to extract hot air with fans and piping(ongoing project). Am I the only person being paranoid about these things (reducing heat sink temperature) in order to gain the maximum power output?

The RDSon (resistance from Drain to Source) increases with temperature, which will reduce efficiency. The question is whether this is more than you lose on running the fans. I'm bound to think the answer to that is in the negative, but it might be an interesting calculation to do. I tend to think the engineers who build these things would add a fan if it increased the efficiency significantly so that it can be printed on the box...
