February 3, 20233 yr Hey All, I am hoping the wealth of knowledge on this forum can help me in my decision making. I am not an electrician, but want to make sure I atleast udnerstand to some extent wha im buying) I will be installing back up system to my home and need some guidance on the installation of my system, I am using an accredited certified installer, but wanted clarity as the Sunsynk 12Kw 3Ph (Already purchased inverter) will be the first he does. My question is around 3 areas: 1. Inverter Load on Grid 1.1 what is the maximum safe pass through I can have? Datasheet says 60A. 1.1.1 - is the 60A per Phase? 1.1.2 This applies to when im on grid for essentials only? 1.1.3 If I exceed 60a per phase the inverter will - trip or blowup? This is important as when im on grid, my usage on 1 phase may exceed the 20A limit which is there for off grid (My kitchen appliances if used together , Micro, Kettle and Coffee machine will on their own get to around 6kw). Also my family is growing, and in time, usage will increase, rather than decrease. Installer recommends 20A max for on and off grid as he doesnt to damage the inverter, but that is too limiting when im on grid. 2. Inverter load off grid 2.1 What is the maximum power the inverter can provide safely while off grid, Datasheet says 19.1A, but it also says imbalanced load of 6kw which is more than 19.1A? 2.1.1 If I have a 60A pass through (as point 1 - on grid) the inverter will be able to supply more than the 19.1A Max stated, is there anyway/setting to limit the inverter to not exceed the 19.1A or will I need to manage my load manually? 2.1.2 What happens if I do mistakenly exceed the 19.1A load? This is important because I will manage my load during off grid to stay within 20A, but if by chance I happen to exceed, which can easily happen if people forget its load shedding, I need to know what will happen. This 20A limit is fine ofr off grid, but not on grid where lad will exceed 20A on a single phase. 3. Batteries 3.1 As im in Durban, load shedding is minimal, so plan on having a small battery bank to start (possible 1 x 5.32 or 2 x 5.32) 3.1.1 I will be limited to the battery output here of 100A max discharge , what happens if I exceed it? 4. Solar Panels 4.1 I am confused by the MPPT design here: 4.1.1 Datasheet states PV MPPT range 14v - 800V but Max PV input is 1000V (Is 800 the safe value or Max value?) 4.1.2 is Max PV input of 1000V across both MPPT's combined? 4.1.2 25A MPPT - Does that mean I can have a JA Panel 550w which has an Amperage rating of above 13? and install as many until safe VOC is reached? 4.1.3 Based on above info, I will calculate max panels, as panel Volts are 49,9 per panel Important for setup of Panels as I look to expand, need to start with the right panels so that extending is easy. I really, truly am appreciative of any support, have seem lots of comments on thi on 8kw and 5kw, but not 12kw, and was hoping to get some clarity as im now at wits end of googling. Thank you.
