February 20, 20233 yr Hi All, I have a Mecer SOL-I-AX-5P and I want to add a second inverter in parallel. The equivalent model on the market now is the SOL-I-AX-5VP. Is it possible to pair these two models or do they need to be exactly the same? If it's a firmware issue, is it possible to update the firmware on the existing one to match that of the newer one? Thanks!

You definitely can't parallel an MPPT and a PWM model; the firmwares are too different and incompatible. It's common to need a firmware update to bring the two models up to the same firmware version. Usually you need to update even the new model, as it's been sitting on the shelf or in transport for some time. It's best to have the identical firmware in both, though in some circumstances they can be slightly different. There is an internal constant that gets compared; if these are different, you get a firmware not compatible fault code (fault code 71). The problem is that they don't always change the internal constant when really they should, so you can get weird problems with different firmwares, even if you don't get that fault code. But you can't put MPPT firmware into an inverter with PWM hardware, or vice versa. Edited February 20, 20233 yr by Coulomb
