February 23, 20233 yr Hi ; I'm currently looking at installing a heat pump on a 200l geyser. I also want to put this on my essentials side of my solar installation. Which brands would you recommend and also maybe a recommendation on a reputable installer in the Randburg area? Thanks

They lead all local manufacturers to patent their loading valve to limit mixing cold and hot water. Others followed with something similar I think. Mine is the 4.7kW and 9 years old. I have never used an element to assist. Edited February 23, 20233 yr by Scorp007

Out of interest I see that these pumps mention a 1.2kw/h usage and max is 2kw to heat up a geyser, I assume it would average more around the 1.8kw/h marker to heat up a 200l geyser ? and how long does it take to heat up.

It takes about 9.3kwh to heat up 200L with an element from 20 to 60 degrees C. The heat pump should take maximum 4.65kwh. I only run mine 1h in the early morning and 1.5h after peak PV for the evening. This is for a 150L geyser. Mine uses 1.5kw while running. After a bath I also run it as geyser is around 25 degrees after running a bath. In summer it takes about the same time as an element but as it gets colder the time is longer. Even in mid winter it never uses more power than an element would but I use longer run time.
February 24, 20233 yr i use an Alliance 7.2kW heat pump, to heat a 200L geyser. Consumes about 2.2kW or around 10amps when running. Pretty much as Scorp007 says, in summer its quick to heat the geyser, winter a little longer, but still way more efficient than an element
