Geyser power saving

Featured Replies

Morning All. Looking at retrofitting my geyser with a 1,5kw element to spread load once off grid. Would a PTC element actually save power as claimed by their manufacturers? Does a 1,5kw PTC element not use the same amount of power to heat say 100l as does a 1,5kw normal element?

"4.18 Joules of heat energy are required to raise the temperature of 1g of water by 1°C".

There is no way to make this cheaper unless you inject external heat into the system (eg a heatpump)

It makes no difference if you use tungsten, PTC chips, bitcoin miners or burning gas/wood to heat the water.

The insulation on your geyser will by far be the factor that costs you the most over time as most geysers will leak anywhere from 1.5kWh to 3kWh per day
