June 8, 20233 yr Good day We are looking at getting a generator with an ATS switch to run some industrial printers. Ideally we don't want the power to drop ons load-shedding hits. I am aware that the ATS does have delay, because it triggers the generator to start up once the main power cuts. The question is, if we start the generator 5-10mins before load-shedding, will it switch over to the generator power when load-shedding kicks in without cutting power to our machines? June 8, 20233 yr The only way I know of achieving this is by running your printers off of a UPS (or UPS's on each printer). Then you won't need tp pre-start the generator. The ATS delay will not change as the switchover time is triggered by the absence of or restoration of Eskom supply. But I'm not an electrician so what do I know.

If it works like most ATS it will instantly switch to whatever source is available once primary is off so pre-starting genny *should* instantly change over when Eskom drops I have Eskom on the ATS as a failover if my inverters trip, and the switch is seamless Edited June 9, 20233 yr by PsyWulf
